I was thinking about that phrase today. Is it worth doing if doing it does no good? The only thimgs worth doing are the things that cause good.

Isn't anything else just a waste of time?.

As with everything in life there are some cautions and a paradox. If you're going to charge in where the brave dare not go (or where angels fear to tread), you have a personal responsibility to make sure you're actually doing good!

Here's the paradox: Although you maybe trying to do good, the whole thing only works if the goal you hope to achieve is actually beneficial. But you don't have to achieve the goal, you only have to reach beyond your everyday life with the potential to make someone's life or the world better!!!.

It's the potential, which you have within yourself, of doing good which is important rather than achieving the positive result..

Always be POLITE, so that people know that you've been brought up well!!!

Sometimes you have to do things for your own reasons even though you know they might be insignificant, even though you know the effect of your actions will be minimal. Just so that you can say things like 'at least I tried', just so that you know you weren't one of the people who stood around doing nothing. Or just so you can sleep at night.

the thing is though, how do you know something will not have some unexpected or unseen good affect. you cannot know every possible effect of any action you take. so while you may not immediately see the good that doing action x will do that doesnt mean it isnt there. (of course doesnt necessarily mean it is there either)

it is the actual act of doing the thing that produces the good, rather than action x will have good effect y. you dont know beforehand that doing it will cause good, it is only in actually doing it that the good happens. which of course still doesnt get you any closer to knowing whether or not to do something.

so what you have to do is to approach the act, approach the universe, with good intentions in your heart and the universe will reflect that and reward the intent.

they can have my FREEDOM when they pry it from my cold dead hands.
