Here are five examples from the news - previously discussed on IC - which came to mind. A classic outing of an innocent public figure. Teacher investigated for 'lurid' vampire websites There have also been plenty of examples of the media outing people. This is often based simply on people's sexual preferences. If one were to replace 'X is kinky' with 'X is gay' many stories wouldn't stand up or would be considered homophobic. The difference is that gay is now accepted as a sexuality rather than bad behaviour. BDSMers are still being put in the bad behaviour category when many of us would argue that kink is an integral part of our sexual nature. edited 'cos I can't count. you can quote me saying "Lady Delilah is a dedicated and hard working person who has been praised for her job in helping her clients. she is also a health worker and due to this law has to keep her BDSM persona as secret as she would be diciplined if she ever got found out. She feels 'how is this protecting the rights of women- making them unemployed, outing them to friends and family and ruining their lives. Harold Shipman was a serial killer who happened to be a doctor. If a law came out banning all dcotors because a few were serial killers, people would be outraged and argue quite rightly that not all doctors are serial killers. but this is exactly what this law is doing - discriminating against us because of a few.' and i would add if you can get a forensic expert opinion from someone high up who can give a picture of killers and that not all of them are into extreme porn, then that would be great. rant over!

Many, many thanks for all your helpful posts! I really appreciate the helpful comments and examples, both on this board and in memos sent to me. Indeed, there's been more quotes and examples than I could possibly use. I haven't been able to use them all of course, but they're all appreciated nonetheless. I'm hoping to write on these issues a lot more in future. I've now sent off the article and it should go online tomorrow. I'll post here to let you know when it's up!

I applied to do my "civic duty" as a magistrate about two years back. Was called for an interview and the instant I admitted I was a BDSM dominant the interview was IMMEDIATELY terminated. Just like that - not even any pretense at listening further. Toak FEMALE, BONDAGE-FRIENDLY MODEL SOUGHT. I am seeking to update my "How To" shibari bondage pictures (see my profile pics, the clothed blonde tied in red and black) with a model more "enthusiastic" about BDSM, and who is happy to be photographed nude. MEMO ME if this is you.

Not forgetting, of course, the Safeguarding Vulnerable Groups Act which sets up an "Independant Barring Board" which can ban people from working with "vulnerable groups" if they exhibit certain behaviours including:
This Act was actually brought in *before* the CJIA's Extreme Porn legislation was even on the statute books, let alone enforced!
