Broken Symmetry
*
The mirror lies in shards upon the floor,
the symmetry was broken long ago;
I scarce remember now what it was for.
*
It shattered as you left and closed the door.
The pieces fell like frozen lakes, and so
the mirror lies in shards upon the floor.
*
I hope that mine was not the face I saw:
a reliquary never made for show.
I scarce remember now what it was for.
*
I only want to watch the rivers thaw,
to melt them with a match and see them flow.
The mirror lies in shards upon the floor.
*
Here am I, a casualty of the Last Word War –
so dumb that I can only scrape my bow –
I scarce remember now what it was for.
*
On my knees I try to mend this jigsaw
puzzle, but my blind eyes only know
the mirror lies in shards upon the floor;
I scarce remember now what it was for.
