The atheists Commandments (7)

It's pretty cool that christians have their own set of rules. It's a shame atheists and agnostics don't. Trouble is there's no god to write them...

Hmmmm...

So lets have a go. Lets see if we can write our own 10 atheist commandments. Okay, now they have to be positive and help create a better society. They also they have to contain the word "thou" cos that makes them seem more important.

So let's see your contributions...

Thou shalt not believe anything without just cause.

Thou shalt lie in bed on a Sunday morning. Unless you fancy a bit of a stroll to get the papers.

I had a rather deep, yet interesting conversation with a good friend of mine over the Festivities. She was raised as a "Christian" but now can't be sure of what she really believes in and says that she now feels more agnostic. I, personally, can't make my mind up whether I'm agnostic or atheist (not that it matters much for this). Seeing as we were both raised in a predominantly Christian society we have become accustomed to many of those basic concepts and boundaries.

We decided (in our partly drunken wisdom) that rules of basic right and wrong should apply (otherwise anarchy would surely ensue).

Therefore, the main rule has got to be:

  • Thou shall not kill.

After that, it's got to be something along the lines of:

  • Thou shall do unto others as thou wishes to be done to (or something similar).

That's all for now, my brain hurts!

I think that Alistair could have come up with some good stuff for this if he was around to post.

Here is a few of mine:

  • Thou shall not start or escalate any aggressive situations.
  • Thou shall try to do good, but if this is not possible, at least do no harm.
  • Keep an open mind, respect other's opinions, but do not feel obliged to agree with them.
  • Believe in yourself, love yourself, respect yourself, value yourself. Us this as the solid foundation to help others to do the same.

Also see my tagline; Everyone who lives dies, but not everyone who dies has truly lived. Not mine, but says what I think life is about very well.

Thou shalt not take thyself too seriously.

It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Thou shalt determine what is really moral by trusting your own mind.

Thou shalt not fear to be eccentric in opinion, for every "opinion" now accepted was once eccentric.

Thou shalt only show respect to those who have earned the right to be respected

Always be POLITE, so that people know that you've been brought up well!!!
