On the other hand, if it ain't broke, why fix it? And aren't those whose photos have been scored the only ones who can see the scores, apart from the (anonymous) scorers? ETA - sorry, I was wrong - it appears that it will be possible to show the ratings your pictures receive to others. Rating doesn't affect this. That information - who has looked at what images, never mind rating - is already available, to whoever has access to the logs on IC's servers. If you're at home or at work, then with your ISP's co-operation it can be tracked back to your address. The only difference is that, at the moment, Admin might delete those records. Doing that with the rating system wouldn't be impossible, but it would make it impossible for you to keep track of which pictures you'd rated in the past. Perhaps I wasn't clear enough. I only looked at two pictures for rating, neither of which I recalled having seen before. My point was that by rating pictures, you are exposing yourself potentially to viewing/possessing (on your pc) far more photos on this site than you would otherwise normally view. I see no problem with having a 'report' button on all the pics on the site to alert Admin to possible problems that might have slipped through the net. I would however be a lot happier that someone with experience had looked at the pic before there was any possibility that it reached my screen. The rating system is however pretty tacky in an Alt.com kind of way. If Admin want a page of 'hot pics' (for next year's IC calendar perhaps ?) then isn't it possible to just list the ones most looked at by page views, or use some other method of rating ? After all Admin do 'pick' which three pictures appear on the front page of IC so it can be done ! You're going to reap just what you sow

One has to conclude that some people just don't know genius when they see it! Why poison your liver when I could eat it for you?

Aah, I see what you mean - I thought you meant that you were concerned that people would be able to use the records of people's ratings as a means of seeing which pictures a given person had viewed.

As far as has been discovered - which isn't very much - picking of those pictures was done when they're reviewed after upload, not based on popularity.

That's funny I usually recognise you by your shite hairdo, that unmistakable 70's stench and your whiney, Joe Pesci voice warbling on about thunder in your heart...

Pretty bad psychology on the part of admin then. IC will have its share of the vain and the exhibitionists for which a rating system will only encourage pic uploading. Unless of course admins agenda is to only have the pics of "beautiful people" where only positive ratings end up being displayed. The whole idea of rating pics is a little silly in my view, if the idea is to peer review pics for legality there is no need for an OK button, or any kind of score, just a report button.
