Hive pays a monthly fee to have his credit cards checked for fraud.

He got a phone call this morning saying that in the past three days £1700 had been taken off his card. The payments did not fit in with what he would normally use it for.

One phone call and all the money is now back on his card and the bank is now dealing with it.

All Hive has to do is destroy the card a new one is already on its way.

Hive gets a phone call every few months or so when ever he pays for anything different. This is the first time that this card has been used fraudulently.

It is always important to check what has been taken off your credit cards to make sure they are not being used fraudulently.

Its not just paying for items over the web that leaves you open to this. Hive was asked if he had used it over the phone or had given it to someone in a restaurant or shop.

Be careful with credit cards. Hive has to use his all the time in many different ways for work that is why he pays for extra security.

I recieved a letter from Barclays a few weeks ago saying I needed to call to discuss a possible fraud payment on my card, and that the next time I used my card the shop keeper would have to call the bank to confirm my identity. Turned out it was me who tried paying something to a head office in Ireland and it kept bouncing because it wouldn't accept my type of card.

Yes - hello we're back - and we're taking calls Now what was the question?

you know M & S are cracking, Mum had a small transaction on her card, they called and checked ...turns out it was a test transaction and if it had been approved it would of been used by the pricks who gained her info.

ANY small ammount on your card apperently is a great sign .

they cancelled the card and new one was sent.

Nothing is safe afterall!

unless you are a regular visitor abroad, its also worth while having your card blocked for international use. this is useful cos a lot of the fraudulent transactions come from other countries. its a simple matter to reactivate if needed.

Unless you regularly buy things from overseas like we do. Our card got stopped when we tried to buy a plane ticket UK-US from an Australian website. (Excellent price, btw.)

The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.

When something similar happened to me the new card came with a different card number even though it was tied to the same bank account. I had to change my payment details with several web sites and had two card standing payments bounced. Something perhaps for you to check.

I was scammed for just over 4 grand earlier this year, yes, I got my money back as I could prove I wasn't in the Far East during my supposed spending spree, still very inconvenient though and all I can say is, dont use your card buying petrol at a certain garage near Castle Bromwich.

its not just credit cards, someone i know discovered that a direct debit (or a standing order, can't remember which) had been set up on her current account for a weekly sum of ridiculous proportions. She was lucky she checked her account regularly. It had an African connection apparently. She's had to change all of her accounts at the bank.
