The cheap, plain white sort, that you can get in supermarkets, are best, especially to start off with. Tealights are tricky to drip; they tend to pour instead. Coloured ones tend to be hotter, stickier, and generally nastier. And, as Sinmara said, the higher you hold the candle, the cooler the wax will be when it hits the person.

Beeswax is hotter than ordinary "white" paraffin wax. According to the fount of all knowledge, ordinary white candle wax's melting point starts at about 47deg upwards, but can vary a lot. Beeswax melts at 62-64deg, which is right at the top end of ordinary wax's melting point range.

Also ,the ones from supermarkets tend to be quite long so you can build up the anticipation by letting the sub watch as the wax dribbles down part of the length before you flick or shift your grasp and the hot wax spatters down...making such pretty patterns. The look in her eyes is just as rewarding as the moan or intake of breath when the wax lands.

The ones supplied by Catholic churches seem to have a particularly low melting point. Please do contribute generously to the collection box, light one candle in supplication, and confess your sins. Although as kinks you are going to hell anyway remember some forms of eternal torment and damnation are worse than others... S....x.

I use soy wax candles made with my own fair hands. They have a far lower melting temperature than paraffin wax and are kinder to the skin long term as well, being vegetable rather than mineral based. Adding scented oils and colours creates a higher temperature when melted which gives more propensity for burning skin. They are very good for starting off for an inexperienced user and they smell sweet too. Once you have become familiar with their use, perhaps then move on to the standard white household candles. As with all these accessories we use, start moderately to hone your skills and work up if desired. All supplies can be obtained from Ebay at very reasonable prices and I just use my microwave to melt the wax before pouring it into molds, can't be faffing about with double containers over the hob.
