It is a very worrying trend! It's like being in China!

OOoh, which one are you on?

I have Virgin and it doesn't work for me... :(

Same here - Virgin Media is blocking the wiki page and it comes up blank when I click it. However it is not blocking many other copies of what I presume to be the same image on other sites.

It's an album cover not a paedophilic porn site.

From the Scorpion page on wiki..

In 2008 the Internet Watch Foundation (IWF), a UK-based non-government organization, added this article to its blacklist[15] due to the encyclopedia's use of an image of the original Virgin Killer album cover. As a result, people using many major UK ISPs became unable to view the Wikipedia article because the IWF placed the entire article on its blacklist. Although the controversial cover art is still provided on the deluxe boxed edition of the album sold worldwide,[16] the IWF classified the image of the cover as a "potentially illegal indecent image of a child".[17] The block was accomplished by ISP proxy systems impersonating Wikipedia's servers, which had the side effects of degrading performance and forcing site administrators to block most of the UK from editing Wikipedia or creating accounts.[18] Because the IWF's block lists are secret, it is not known if other parts of Wikipedia are blocked as part of this event. As of December 7, 2008 the block is still in effect.

It's an album cover not a paedophilic porn site.

And the problem is that while child porn sites are going to be fairly easy to spot and a controversial action such as this is rare for now, the definition of 'extreme' porn will be far less clear. Looking at how IWF operates it would seem likely that they will put sites on their list on a precautionary basis if they receive complaints about them. And you can bet there will be some busybodies out there searching them out and putting the complaints in.

Which means that even if a site is in fact legal it will be blocked to the vast majority of internet users in the UK, with no way to appeal. I doubt that many ISPs will make any sort of fuss, because the more vocal of their users will be people who are terrified of their children finding porn on the net, who will support any censorship of porn regardless of legality.

Robertson said that image — a picture from one of the band's album covers — was first flagged by an Internet user last week. The Internet Watch Foundation consulted with British law enforcement before concluding that the picture could break the law, she said......

.....Robertson said she could not explain reports that other parts of the site were difficult to navigate as a result of the block.

"There shouldn't have been any collateral damage," she said...

Robertson is the new Mary White house I beleive....

The IWF will do the same with BDSM images they think are illegal under the new legislation.

This is without court action, without trial without chance to stand up and say wait a second.

This is oppression and the IWF has the ability to turn into a dictatorship on-line for people in the UK.

This does scare me more on that basis.

Also I would be surprised if you can't get the album in the UK with the cover and from a quick look online you can get it shipped from places including the US along with other European country's ... would this count as possessing child pornography along with anyone who has bought this music album in the past.

If they block extreme porn sites with the same technique as this article, it won't be a problem at all

BT mobile broadband have blocked several sites including informedconsent and several gambling sites. Their response is simply that these are adult sites and so are a restricted.

Try putting the url in that site I posted. Unless you mean internet on the phone itself. In that case try downloading the Opera Mini browser and using that instead of the phone's browser.
