Today I decided to take 10 min and sort through my email account and delete any old emails that where no longer needed. Whilst doing this I noticed that the last time I had been contacted by the police officer investigating a serious offence, where I was the victim, was over 8 months ago. Now I went and checked through my sent items to see if it was just down to the fact I had not contacted him at all and maybe was my fault. Well having checked through the sent items, I had sent 2 emails in that time and received no reply back from either of them.
So in a rather frustrated manner I put together the email below, names of both the officer investigating any my full name have been removed, and have emailed him today with this email.
Further to my email correspondents on the 18th September 2008 and 2nd June 2008 I am yet to hear from you regarding the state of the case since the 11th April 2008. It is rapidly approaching eight months since I last was informed about anything in regards to this situation. Had it been a minor criminal offence it would to a degree not bother me so much. Though we are dealing with one of the most serious indictable offences in the English criminal justice system. One that carries up to a maximum sentence of life imprisonment. I can understand that a month or possibly two could pass and you are unable to email me as to any progress, though eight months is moving in to the realms of unacceptability. I have weighed up my options with regards to this matter, and have come to the conclusion that I do still want this matter dealing with, and the person in question to be brought before the courts to stand trial for the offence. I perfectly understand that the police have limited resources to deal with issues. Though on a final note, if I do not hear from you by Sunday 7th December at 8pm, I will be filling an official complaint with both the British Transport Police and the Independent Police Complaints Commission.

Now I can understand how some one could not email you straight away, I know I am guilty of not replying as soon as I get an email all the time, but eight months is well horrific. I have been trying to sort my life in to some kind of order, and in the most part I have or am dealing with most of the issues that are there. Though this is one that is really getting to me, it's something that is outside of my control and so I can't really have any active part in getting it sorted. But I would like some progress on it so I can get some closure and move on and all though I will never be able to forget that it happened, but put it to one side and leave it there. So hopefully this email will spur on pc plod to do something pro-active about it and failing that as I said in the email, I will be making complaints against his actions or apparent lack there of.
It got me thinking, should a lawyer or a Doctor or any other professional person be so lax with their communication with people they could face serious disciplinary proceedings. So why does it seem that the police have very little motivation to contact people. If you where to have broken the law then they would be knocking on your door looking for you, yet as a victim of crime you seem to be left out in the cold and they have little or no regard for you. Its appalling, there is laws on how they should treat suspects, how convicted criminals are to be treated, but there is only guidelines that are not legally enforceable on how to deal with the victims of crime!
You mistreat a prisoner or a suspect and the police officer can be up on charges themselves, but to ignore the victim(s) of crime is apparently ok. It has got me seriously thinking about looking in to the realities of bringing legal proceedings against the Police.
Any how rant over.
