When said by a friend or lover it makes me happy & proud of my sexuality. When said as an insult it makes me angry and will likely trigger a rant about sexual politics and the inequality of how men and women are judged when it comes to liking sex.

This is very interesting and I've learned something today! My first natural instinctive reply to the question was 'dirty untidy woman'... which given the state of my home/car/office, I would concede applies to me without question! Given that it's used so frequently with respect to sexual slutty-ness (?!) I wondered why I still hark back to this definition. So I did what any normal 21st century slut seeking enlightenment would do... I went to that font of all (inaccurate) knowledge, Wiki, and found that my definition is somewhat outdated, hailing as it does from the word 'slattern', from the middle ages. Hmmm. The bit I learned was self-realisation really. I realised that this definition was given to me by my mother, who really did have victorian ideas when it came to sex and life in general! Either she believed that this is what it meant, and only what it meant, or she was trying to shield me from the awful truth that (shock horror) *some* women have sex and enjoy it!!! This led on to the fact that I remember her actually calling me a slut on several occasions!!! Usually with respect to the state me/my bedroom were in. Since I came to this scene, I've always had a gut-wrenching anger at being called a slut, and I couldn't understand why a word, and a tame one at that, evoked such feeling. Now remembering the humiliation my mother used to rain down on me, is there any wonder! The last thing a girl in an erotic situation wants is to be reminded of Mother!!!
At least now I have an explanation as to why I start ticking like an unexploded bomb when someone calls me 'slut', which is a bit more rational than the 'Do not ever call me that again' through gritted teeth.

Ah now you see, to me that's more a definition of slattern But about slut: I'd never encountered it much until I started reading IC. The people I know offline tend to be equally tolerant of male and female promiscuity, and/or disinclined to discuss such things (eg my parents). I don't like the word and I don't think I'd use it. If I were playing with another woman who I knew meant it differently. Hmmm... and maybe role-play as well might be, a rather dark shade of fun.

yes it is the generic nature of words like whore and slut that make them more debasing and horny I would say. As for music, I think I could be the whoriest slut of them all! X Fight The Power

Ah semantics again. It's original meaning as a derogatory term for a woman of loose morals, could easily be applied to 'normal' male behaviour.
If I was to use it, I would be a hippocrite. Me, purer than the driven snow, NOT In modern terminology, especially within the BDSM / Fetish scene, I will use it with a modifier. Thus, rope slut, pain slut etc. and do not consider it derogatory at all. I mean it as a compliment. S_C Owner and Builder of The Croppery Dungeon and Breakfast, on the sunny East Sussex coast.

A lot! And everytime some one on the outside calls me a slut I happily reply "Yes, and amazing sex I have as well!". I choose to take the word back by making the namecaller confused. It is not negative for me. It is someone who enjoys his/her/wotevers sexuality and is not afraid to do that.I am a "bad girl" who is not controlled by any one. Even when she let's some one control her. Also, people who call me that, well it says more about them. That they are scared, small people that feel threatened by me. A language that tells me that I am, in the end, impossible to own. In the bedroom, some people think it is a humiliation when calling me a slut. It is a compliment. All the way. A word that gives me power. And that make me come if whispered into my ear at the right moment. I am a slut, I can act like a whore, and if someone would call me any of those things in a nonsexual context my answers would be anything from 'A whore you can never afford, cause I want intelligent payment' to ' I have more sex than you have, and I don't need you to enjoy my life. You don't matter the slightest, fuck off' moreinches.wordpress.com Edited 29 Nov 08, 6:26 PM by Hedwig

Yes because there are double standards in society. Men who have many sexual partners are admired as being horny studs, but a woman with many sexual partners is called a tart or a slut. How many men get called sluts?
