I re-discovered mid-thigh chemise-slips about 5-6 years ago (you know who you are)
I find a delicate satin (must be satin or silk) black slip under a dress or blouse-skirt combo rather smoothing visually and it teams well with proper black stockings & garter belt. Also rather fetching in its own right if the atmosphere around me gets too warm and I want to take a layer away... Lip Up Phatty | |

I wear full length ones under dresses, in silk usually, I find it disguises corset and garter belt lumps and bumps well. I never wear a half slip as I tend to wear pencil skirts and they only scrunch up, although if I wear a swing skirt, which I do very occasionally, I wear a big net underskirt, not quite the same though. | |

If the outfit requires one then they are necessary. I wear simple ones under my work skirts, which has caused amusing comments from some of the previous beaus who were not that used to them. I have a number of different styles for different outfits and a selection of bloomers and chemises for the Victorian / Edwardian outfits. I make some, I buy others. Vintage fairs are good but there are a number of places that still sell them. | |

I still wear petticoats...white full cotton ones under my long skirts, they look fantastic and make me feel very feminine. I have had a few compliments at work at how pretty my skirts look with the lace peeking out from underneath. I cheat though, real ones can be expensive so in the summer when the white cotton skirts are in, I buy ones that look like old fashioned petticoats...it has saved me a fortune...second hand shops are great for them too.
