severe pain in ankle reduced me to tears in seconds.
i havent felt this type of pain for a long time.
i suddenly feel very insecure.
ow, and i have no pain killers.

sorry to hear, hope it gets better soon. Ice might help if you have some, it will help numb When the least they could do to you was everything, then the most they could do to you suddenly held no terror.

How flexible is your back?
Quite a lot of awful pains can come from a trapped nerve (or squashed disc) which in turn is caused by tired or stressed or damaged back muscles (of which there are many!)
Swimming is indeed a great helper 
Bits of yoga are good too....
