We'll be asking around at the Leeds munch a week on Saturday to get some general opinions and input. No doubt also bending your ear regarding what it entails to run a munch, apart from the obvious of course ! See ya soon. As Leeds is a weekend munch would make sense to run one relatively close to Leeds on a weekday to give those who can't give up Saturday afternoons the opportunity to attend one ? I appreciate York is a Wednesday but i wouldn't say that was 'local' to Leeds. Man is least himself when he talks in his own person. Give him a mask, and he will tell you the truth. ~Oscar Wilde

The Clayton side of Bradford would be close for anyone in the Halifax/Huddersfield area or traveling in from the M62 and Rochdale or Wakefield. These are places that don't currently have a local munch. How easy is public transport? I think you need to decide how far people will travel for a munch.
We know that people travel to the York munch from Leeds, Skipton, Otley, Gateshead, Doncaster, Barnsley, Keighley, Wakefield, Hull, Harrogate and other places. Some would no doubt come to this if access is easy. Leeds has an equally large catchment area but it is worth noting that not many people from Manchester regularly attend munches over here. How wide a catchment area does Sheffield have?
Personally I like midweek munches. That's why I go to York and Manchester, sometimes to Sheffield (and I would get to Preston and Liverpool). There are still plenty of spare mid week days in the month. Pick a date and tell us
The older I get the more I recall.........how little I knew when I knew it all. Edited 16 Nov 08, 4:22 PM by EricStanton

A midweek munch would be a bit difficult for us with David working the Shifts he does, I'd end up running the thing on me Jack Jones ! We were thinking of maybe the 2nd or 3rd Saturday of the month but of course the negotiations are still underway, we're not sure about competing with Via though, we know a lot of you lot go to that one. Midweek would be convenient for my family, since it'd be a detour on the way home from work! Given that I get very nervous parking my motorcycle up in Bradford, especially without a ground anchor (so easy to chuck one in the back of a refrigerated van and silently disappear it, otherwise), what sort of area is Clayton? Work seems to be slap bang in the middle of the red light district, so I guess it can't get much dodgier, but the office building has a myriad of security.

From a practical point of view, you may find midweek a better option. As the pub is a popular function venue, it'll save having to compete with the more profitable wedding receptions etc.
Even with the excellent turn out that munches like Chesterfield and York get, it is never going to be as profitable for the pub as a wedding reception. If they don't have to choose between the two, it can only be better for the munch Sorry to sound negative about a good idea, but better that than find out the landlord will want you to be flexible, so that the pub can have the receptions aswell. :o) On a more positive note, although it's a bit far to attend, if I can help do feel free to ask.
