I just saw this - http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_...

Michael Crichton, the bestselling author behind the fictional world of Jurassic Park, died today at the age of 66 after a battle with cancer that he hid from the public eye.

What a shame - his books were great and the films they made from them in some cases pretty great.
I had no idea he was even ill. RIP.

I think he deserves credit for helping to revive the coolness of dinosaurs, and also for being unashamedly clever, he wrote very technical books and made no apologies for doing so. But he equally deserves a slap for schilling for the oil industry. It's always sad when an author like him dies though, I wasn't a huge fan of his work but it was distinct from the pack. It's a trap. |

I thought he was a very talented man. 'Sphere' was my favourite book in my teens. |

Being a Greenhouse Gas skeptic didn't make him a "schill" for the oil industry, even if petroleum geologists liked what he wrote and greenies didn't. International man of mystery |

The Jurrasic park films werre awesome, his books were still better. It was also the technical detail that he went into when writing the stories for ER as well. I gather that he was maticoulous for detail. Another sad loss and I can paass on my condolenses to hsi family. Never ever accused of knowingly ever doing anything nice! |
