We went to The Clink in Newport at the weekend. Our first visit - and last, as it's closed now, apart from a NYE bash.

On the plus side, it was free (!) and friendly. But I'm not exactly sure *what* it was supposed to be. We discovered at the last minute that it was supposedly a swingers night. We didn't leave until almost 3.30am, and found very little evidence of swinging going on, and certainly no more than you'd probably see in a vanilla nightclub. We indulged ourselves in a private room.

There was also very little BDSM style play, although there was dungeon space and kit. I had a local boy upside down by his ankles, merrily being whacked and played for a while, and somebody else had a violet wand on the same piece of kit, but I think that was about it - apart from me spanking the barman for free wine

Hardly anybody dressed up, so there wasn't anything of substance for fetishists either. The vast majority seemed to be single males in jeans, t-shirts and trainers. Fairly unappetising for any "alternative" event

We were actually told we were weird for dressing up, which I found very funny! One lady used the expression "you kinky people look fabulous, but you wouldn't catch me doing it".

On arrival, before we'd even got a drink, we wandered downstairs to have a look-see, and were immidiately followed by no less than 7 wanky men, all fiddling with themselves. Generally, I'm all for single men in clubs, and wanking doesn't really throw me, but that was a bit much

We had a fun time, but left wondering what was supposed to be going on, as it wasn't one thing or another. It wasn't sexy that's for sure. But it was clean and sociable. Nice people, nice space, great layout, but nothing going on to speak of, apart from what we were doing a lot of the time.

Personally I have no objection to swingers, fetishists, players and dancers all sharing the same club space, but I've yet to see it work really well.

We were both there that night and we'd whispered at each other if it was yourself, sorry we didn't say hello - we sat in the pool room and am afraid we didn't dress up or play because we knew what a damp squib it was going to be - saying that we were only there to socialise with friends and say goodbye to the place where indeed He and I met over 18mnths ago. It wasnt a shadow of its former self I'm afraid and I'm sorry you didnt see it on some of the events in its prime. But as anyone knows you make the best of whats available and in good company you can still have a great time.
Another reason we didnt play or stay late was because we were going to EDS at Club O in Bristol the following day and if I may recommend any future visits to go there - its had a recent refurb and is under new management and we've always had a lovely time there. Its a strictly BDSM/fetish night from now on and so less chance of wanky men, well apart from wanky subs and wanky doms ;-D
