Wearing so many layers of clothing that we looked like the michelin man, we braved the cold and headed out to West park for the bonfire display. Walking hand in hand with Prae through the glow of flashing lights, the smells of hotdogs and cheese burgers mingling with the sweet scents of doughnuts and candy floss.
I had a moment when I regressed to a 5 year old and had to have a neon flashing light sabre, cue lots of gay darth vader impressions
We waited with excitement for the time when the bonfire was lit, it was huge so we didn't stand to close as we knew it was going to be hot. 7.30 came along with the countdown, the crowd coming in close waiting for the moment when flames could be seen and when it did.......wow!
The flames were huge, the heat was unreal, even from where we were stood you could feel your face burning from the heat. Unfortunatly for some the wind was in the wrong direction and all those glowing embers drifted and fell amongst the crowd. I couldn't help laughing as two lasses with far too much make up went squealing past with holes burnt though their brolly.
It had been trying to rain all evening but now it was starting to come down steadily. We made our way over to where the firework display was beng held, Prae wrapped his arms around me as i bounced and squeaked with excitement whilst waving my light sabre around with enthusiasm.
I could spend the rest of the afternoon trying to describe the fireworks but i don't think i could find words that would do them justice. It was amazing, even though by this time the rain was coming down hard, stinging our faces as we craned our necks to watch as the sky became a riot of colour and sparkles. The fireworks were in time to music, mainly rock from the 80's which had most people bopping along to,
It was fantastic, amazing and beautiful.
I love Bonfire displays!
