This Brand and Ross fiasco (7)

Thought I would have a listen to this, 'incident' shall we call it.
So, off I popped to Youtube.com patter patter, tap tap tap, enter!
Hey presto!
One or two points did make me chuckle. Became irritating at the third attempt at calling him.
Manuel will always, be funnier. Brand and Ross, poor attempt 2/10.
Just a piss take that went too far.
Must go and buy a Mail now

In my opinion the whole thing is down to Mail Group newspapers. There was a tiny complaint to the original broadcast, I was a listener and I wasn't bothered but then I'm not Andrew Sachs or a relation.
The Mail group has a complete downer on Auntie Beeb and relishes in any chance to stick the knife in.
Both Russell Brand and Jonathan Ross are ticking time bombs and to have them both present a show together was a mistake but the biggest mistake was editorially by letting that piece be broadcast. Even that taken aside I think Mr Sachs may well have proved a thorn in the side of the BBC by complaining about the message itself, broadcast or not.
I look forward to the early return of Mr Brand to broadcasting, a latter day Kenny Everett who was sacked from more stations than I have fingers. We need edgy players in all walks of life and communities.

I don't think Mr Brand really gives a fuck about having his radio show back since he currently has Ponderland on Channel 4, his book, and various roles in Hollywood films coming up.
Never underestimate the stupidity of other people.

I agree with your points about the Mail - however we part company over Mr Brand. Ross at least has good interviewing skills and is a genuinely charismatic presenter, but Brand? Please. Kenny Everett had style and wit - even his regretable appearance at the 1983 Tory Conference didn't detract too much from that. He lampooned and took the mick regardless of political affiliation. Brand by contrast is playing to a crasser generation - a gobby twat who thinks being funny simply involves being crude and swearing a lot.
To fight and conquer in all your battles is not supreme excellence; supreme excellence consists in breaking the enemy's resistance without fighting.

I wrote this on another weblog, but it hasn't been published.
The real target wasn't Brand or the BBC.
It was Ross. Certain elements of the media (Daily Mail in particular) have been after him for a while, ever since the £18 million pound deal came to light. This gave them the opportunity to give him the kicking that they have wanted to for a long time.
For the Daily Mail and their readers, this was a perfect opportunity to have a go. Tomorrow's (Today's now) front page of the Mail mentions the word "Decency", which is one of their favourite terms. Realistically there are elements who wanted Ross out completely, so he could go to ITV and the BBC could become this "pure" system that everyone believes it is or should be.
Of course if it hadn't been passed for broadcast then it wouldn't have happened. The person responsible for that I believe has resigned, although whether she actually heard it before broadcast is a different matter.
I actually believe there was only 2 complaints on the night. The rest of the complaints was people jumping on the bandwagon to complain after hearing it on You Tube etc. I really do not think those that complained were listening to Brand's show on Radio 2 at 10pm on Saturday night. They would be watching that nice Mr Linekar on BBC1, or whatever was on BBC2 at the time.
Then Mr Brown weighed in because it was something else other than the financial crisis, and the government is always looking for something to use a division tactic from the real issues which are completely out of their control.

You mean like the Mail and their gang of half-witted 'Offended of Tumbridge Wells''? Quite right. Let's hope they all get burned alive. |

I think history will find this story has as many tentacles as the Max Moseley affair.
