green tea claims (13)

slaveish's profile

Just back from the gym...the instructor recommended drinking up to four cups of 'clipper' green tea every day to aid weight loss and help to tone up .

Before i rush out to buy a few packets does anyone know if the stuff actually works and does it really does need to be the 'clipper' label or is she just on commission ?

White tea has the same properties and i personally prefer it to the green variety. It doesn't have to be Clipper though. Clipper is a fair trade tea, maybe that's why she was plugging it...lol

Green, white,Clipper or not, whatever you choose, enjoy.

I was recommended it by a nurse as its supposed to help lower blood pressure and is also less of a duretic than normal tea.

If green tea really worked for weight loss don't you think everyone would be taking it? The same thing goes for all dieting methods: They don't work. It is the person who does the dieting who makes it work. Eat less fat and processed food.

Green tea is lovely, i love drinking the stuff when i am in the mood for tea. most come with a hint of leamon in it as it can be a bit harsh a taste for some people on its own.

Some people say i am evil, i have no idea why they think that.

There is no evidence it has any effect on cardiovascular disease.

If you can get the mint flavoured green tea it's much nicer and very refreshing and apparently an antioxidant.

I drink lots of it but Clipper isn't my fav brand at all.

After doing a bit more research it would appear one of the constituents of green tea, Epigallocatechin-3-Gallate, or EGCG, may help with fat oxidation. So far studies have only been carried out on men and obese post menopausal women who exercise regularly. So far the results say it may help but doesn't say it does help. The doses in the studies were too low to increase fat oxidisation and both samples were fairly small samples 6 men and 38 women.

Your instructor only sees people who continue with exercise. The ones who take green tea and drop out are lost from her perception. It is the continuing with exercise which has the greatest effect on weight loss.

Thanks for all your replies...really very interesting.

I get bored with drinking coffee and normal tea so i guess green tea cant do any harm and may just do some good.

As to whether it will aid with weight loss awaits to be seen...best not think too much about the subway butty and chocolate cookie i just ate for my lunch with Master!!!

Where my Master goes, i will follow, tho we will do so hand in hand.
