Does anyone have a tried and tested recipe for pumpkin pie that they have cooked themselves and not just copied from a site?

when i was still liveing with my kids, we used to make scarey spooky pumpkin soup, as pumpkin is fairly bland on its own, so just make a fruit or meat, wih chunks of pumkin bout 1 inch cubed, or use butternut squash which is much nicer.
if you use fruit use a strong flav one like blackberry.
Though i use the inside of the pumpkin to make a roasted soup. cut fleash into chunks, drizzel with oive oil, roast till lightly brown, liquidise.
into large saucepan, add 1 to 11/2 pint of chiken stock chicken oxo is fine, no salt but loads of fresh pepper and just a little tabasco sauce, while its simmering, add good dollop of white wine, smalll tub of single cream and then,,, cut up bits of red liecster, camberg and edam cheese.
stir till cheese melts into soup. and eat!
if you want to be flash a liittle brandy or sherry addedd on top of soup before you serve it is great.though the kids never got the brandy, he red licester cheese causes the 'blood' effect in the soup and the edam long stringy strands of 'cobwebs' in the soup

mahahaha Pumkin Pie - drool. Probably my all time favourite pie. I have some wonderful memories of my family (all 30 or so of us) having our Thanksgiving meal, and there always being pumkin pie. mmmmmmm
I must admit, most Americans - being lazy cows - make it from a can. But I'll email my mum and sister in Iowa today and see if they have a good recipe. Actually... one of my sister-in-laws always brought the pumkin pies, I'll ask her if she has a recipe from scratch. I would like to make some this year too as my son loves it as much as I do.
Will let you know...
Pen You say Ouch like it's a bad word.

I had that opinion too, but having made pies using canned pumpkin and from scratch, the canned works well and is less likely to be watery.
So, if you are starting from scratch I'd steam your chunks of pumpkin rather than boil them and make sure you get excess water out of your puree before turning it into a custard filling. Humanity is my interface with reality ~ Shiva AI

Interesting. I've always been afraid of roasting it in case it alters the flavour too much. Humanity is my interface with reality ~ Shiva AI
