Watch dear reader, your friendly and eager neighbour who spends hour upon hour caressing and crafting his bushes into works of wonder, as he not partaking in a simple hobby!
NO! Far deeper goes his commitment to gardening, he plans to take over the world! Gardeners world at least!
I have witnessed the rivalry of local Topiary giants and it isn't pretty!
Look beyond the Peacocks and Chess pieces crafted out of hedges, and see the frightening determination in the crazed eyes of the gardener wielding HUGE secateurs as he gets lost in his work and sneers at his competitors.
Hah! So they have just about managed something that resembles a teapot next door, he has recreated, thanks to a large Hebe plant, a mini version of the universe!
I have seen some damn fine examples of Topiary locally, and I have been impressed enough to stop and have a proper look see. I have also seen neighbours waring as the head or top of someone's efforts has been lopped off, and fingers have been pointed and accusations of jealousy made.
People get nasty!
So next time you drive past someones home and spot a charmingly crafted cat/elephant/mini maze/dragon etc remember. Topiary breedsEvil! Edited Tue 21 Oct 08, 10:30 PM by RastaPasta

The best one I ever saw was a hedge, the middle of which had been trimmed to look like an elephant. It sounds a bit shit but it looked fantastic.
Although I love gardening I'd just never have either the time or the patience for topiary. Even the stars look brighter tonight, Nothing's impossible

Despite my 'Tongue in cheek' blog, I have seen some truly amazing Topiary and have cursed the fact that I didn't have my camera on me.
I do admire those who have a passion for it, but who choose quirky designs, something more original.
This must have taken a bit of time and effort

OK, enough I think. My goodness me I hope DMC comes back with that Chinese Take away soon! I am trying to distract myself from the fact that I am seriously hungry here!

Oh yes, the Topiary war, well not so much a war.
A couple of villages over from us some guys Topiary was vandalised, he was adamant this was down to a jealous neighbour.
Someone was digging up flower beds along the road sides and destroying hanging baskets as well, so was probably the same person who took offence to the Topiary sculptures.
Ah yes, that delicous Irish Werewolf! I could always say there have been trobules since they laid the new cables down and have him come out have a look see...
