I don't normally shop with Waitrose. On the odd occasion, when they give me vouchers (so desperate are they for my custom,) I indulge and get it delivered via Ocado. A very nice man phoned me at 8.53 this morning to say that they were running early, and could he deliver?
"Er, just let me get the rest of my clothes on," I mumbled vaguely, much to his great amusement. Now don't go thinking I lie around all morning dear Reader, I'm off to the frozen north tomorrow, and felt I couldn't possibly attend a conference in a moderately posh hotel with grey streaks in my hair. In fact, by the time Dan the man arrived, I'd coloured my hair, got a load of washing on and washed the breakfast dishes.
I can recommend Ocado if you've got the dosh to shop at Waitrose- fab delivery and they carry it in for you, which was great considering it was tipping it down with rain. He even reminded me to hand over my used carrier bags.
It turned out there was a freebie today- the Times newspaper. And inside there were some interesting vital statistics. To do with height, you perverts! Cuh!
Now I have never considered Himself to be a giant among men (except metaphorically of course), but it seems I was wrong.
In the 19th century American men were the tallest in the world at 5ft 6ins. Today they average 5ft 7ins compared with 5ft 8.5ins for the Dutch. It doesn't say so in the article, but I remember hearing not so long ago that the Dutch are the tallest people in the world.
I'm taller than the average American male. And Himself is taller than the Dutch by inches. Cool!
