A while ago Miss Lead drew my attention to this groups first event and my immediate response was "what a shame I am in UK"
Thinking about it... is there anything similar in the UK?
It is rare to see events for submissives and I wonder why? Obviously there are clubs etc but these centre around interaction between Tops and bottoms primarily and are play orientated.
Would such an event work in the UK?
I would welcome any thoughts or ideas from anyone.
Didnt know where to post this so put here and weblog.

Hiya there Whelp!
I've seen that too and thought the exact same thing! I'd absolutely love a place for submissives to spend time. A weekend or something.
I think that it would be a lovely idea for submissives to have the opportunity to interact and be introduced to one another. I love meeting other submissives, especially those of the same mind frame.
~s~ Maybe we should organise one! I'd be up for that!

Oh, I'll reply here then
I read the link, and I must admit there are aspects of the weekend that wouldn't really be my cup of tea.
That said... I love love love the thought of the practical classes. How cool to go and learn how to do a proper bootshine, serve dinner properly, and all that jazz. Yes, I know things are then often tailored to one's dominant(s), but it would be great to have a basis to start from. (Plus, I just like learning stuff, and it would be great to have even more stuff I know how to do that you could surprise them with or whatever.)
I wonder if it would even be possible to occasionally cover this stuff elsewhere, e.g. at the LAM, or munches or what have you - most of the stuff I've seen in demos has been quite aimed at tops / dominants really, and it would be cool to see the odd skills-class for subs too! Goodness...

Dang those clever Americanos, to be fair i can see how it works well in the States where they have a tendency to dictate the 'right' way to do stuff.
That said i do see scope for an introduction weekend but perhaps not in D/s etiquette as that is too subjective a topic and who the hell has the right to tell someone else how to serve?
An S&M weekend would be perfect, techniques, safe play taught and all in the surroundings of a relaxed holiday atmosphere. In fairness to us in the UK we do have alot of Munches, Demo's and such like to educate us and for us to take away elements of what we wish to explore. *She who rides the Demon is afraid to dismount*

Thanks for your mails.

I am curious at this moment as to the whys and wherefores of this gap in the community.
Is it demographic for example.
Great to see your enthusiasm though

Is it just me, or does it have a subtle hint of creepiness about it? (c.p. cults in secluded locations; brainwashing; Waco???)
|
It is produced by a select group of submissives and slaves who are dedicated to educating others in our community.
|
Why are they so dedicated, I wonder?
It's probably just because it's American.
Not that I'd be invited anyway! If cheetahs can run so fast, why do they never win?

Absolutely
Thanks for your response
and mails.
I think that classes can be chosen as you wish at the tenessee one. YES and a pool and jacuzzi yummmm.
Nattering to other subs would be excellent also.
I had a few ideas why this may not yet happen in UK...
Would subs/slaves be able to direct proceedings without giggling, mumbling or plain out and out wittering??? lol
The idea is a weekend run by subs for subs I think..
Do some subs feel lost without their Dom/me?
I was thinking of approaching the organisers and putting some questions to them so input would be invaluable

I think if it was in UK it wouldbe very different - imo theres a huge difference between USA and UK BDSM.
I'm all up for meeting up and socialising with other subs and learning if I can

Would female subs feel that their ability to be open and frank with each other on such a weekend might be curtailed by male subs being present, and vice versa?
What specific skills would you like to learn or practice? Edited 13 Oct 08, 11:25 PM by pigsub

I am not generally a one for group events like that, unless
they revolve around watching rock/pop bands in a field,
and even then I am going to less and less of them the older
I get.
It is an interesting concept and it makes me think, would
I feel any camaraderie with a group of people who identified themselves as 'submissive' any more than I
might a group of people who identified themselves as
'women' 'peace campaigners' 'buddhist' or 'socialist'.
And if I did, would I want to pay to spend a weekend
in intimate company with them? And what would I learn
from that 48 hours? I dunno. Equality is over-rated

Undoubtedly, yes.
There's a big cultural difference. I presume it stems from the fact that Americans grow up spending their Summer 'vacation' doing wholesome, regimented group activities at Summer Camp, whereas we Brits grow up drinking under-age and just generally being a pain in the arse!
I wonder which 'camp' would be more fun?
