Autumn… lovely lovely lovely autumn. Gods I feel all warm and happy. Last weekend I had a chap come and sweep out my chimney (lucky me) and so I lit the first fire of the season! I went to the local farm shop and purchased a tonne of vegetables and half a cow and made a stew that I believe will see me through until spring. I made an apple and cinnamon pie, opened a bottle of red wine, had a few friends round, we ate, drank and played scrabble in front of the fire.

Oohhh… and I bought some fabulous carrot and pumpkin bread.

The mornings have been getting colder and I have dug out my gloves and scarf. I cannot wait to wear them!

I want to be bundled up in a warm coat and welly boots walking across the fields to the pub. I want toffee apples and pumpkins, red and gold leaves, crackling fires and warm homemade stew. Cold noses and icy windscreens, early morning mist and the clocks going back! The smell of wood fires and the dark mornings, I want to curse at people who are already talking about Christmas. I love hot water bottles and hot chocolate on the sofa, counting down the days until my birthday and spending more time out doors than I do in the summer, grinning like a loon at the frost and the breath you can see in the air.

In autumn it's bloody brilliant to be alive.

Beautifully written and yes, it is a fabulous season. I love trees - it says so in my pictures (for tying to as well as looking at) - but the sights, sounds and smells of Autumn are better than any other.

The wierdest coincidence - yet again - is that huge chunks of the dialogue in the play that I'm in this very week are between a guy and a gal talking about and describing Autumn. It's American, with reference to rime and hoarfrost, but still very evocative.

Can I be the first to kick a huge pile of dry Autumnal leaves at you?

The best thing about autumn, apart from the lack of sweaty folk in the street, is the FOOD. I loves it!
