Bloody Old Bags (16)

My local Sainsbury's had a sign up that from 1st October they wouldn't be displaying bags but that if people wanted one they will continue to be available (also said that people who used their own bags they would give one bonus point (big deal))
Yesterday I went into Sainsbury's to buy a few things. Man at the till said "Have you brought your own bag" - "No" - "Do you want one - "yes please" - He then in an aggressive manner said "Next time bring your own bag" - I told him that an attitude like that meant that in future I would probably in future shop at Iceland (which is round the corner and I've just come back from). He just shrugged his shoulders and muttered that Iceland would probably do the same soon.
I'm not in the habit of carrying a shopping bag round with me when I go out - quite often my shopping is impulse (i.e. yesterday when I got off the tube I popped into Sainsbury's on the way home to buy some things)
Sainbury's appear to have taken an opportunity, in the "interests of recycling" to cut down on bag supply with no regard to needs of customers.
Years ago when I used to go shopping with my wife, the supermarkets used to have an area where they put their own packing materials, boxes etc. in and customers used to use those boxes to pack their shopping in. When we got home after unpacking WE reused the boxes. Don't know what supermarkets now do with their old boxes.

Seriously, these little beauties take up no space at all really, as much as a bunch of keys, and they can carry 25Kg of content!

When I moved to England I was rather astounded at the waste of plastic bags in supermarkets - in Austria you always had to pay for them (and they weren't the flimsy kind you get over here) - so everybody re-used or had their own bags.
I always carry one or two fabric bags with me, never go without; haven't taken one from a supermarket for ages! It's just a matter of getting used to.
When we do our weekly grocery shopping I bring about 8-10 bags with me, checkout people love us *chuckle* ------
Come to the dark side - we have cookies!

When we used to do our weekly shopping - we went by car and usually took the boxes we'd got previously with us and re-used them.
Now, as I say, I normally just shop when passing by.
In a way it's easier for a female who normally carries some sort of bag with her anyway to maybe stick some bags in but I often am just in jeans and shirt.
I must admit the staff at my local Sainsbury's are usually very friendly (though I don't think I've used that particular cashier before) and maybe I should have reported his attitude but the incident got me thinking.

I've decided that' if Sainsbury's are going to force me to take bags I'm going to take all my Iceland ones and carry my stuff out advertising Iceland ^Thunder^
