Pervert. You may like being different, and you may call your activities "perving" or call your mate on IC a "perv", but "pervert" is a different matter.
So, judging from google's articles (1079 of them), what is a pervert?
peadophile: 22 (3 of them priests and two of them teachers)
exhibitionist (flasher): 4 (one also counted as peadophile from flashing a 15-year-old.)
Most of them have been caught, and are either being tried or have been convicted. Not all of the blurbs list the specific offenses, but in three pages (30 articles) I think the result is clear.
"perverts" are into children.
So, are we perverts?
pervert BDSM = 0
pervert kink = 1 (a Dan Savage column)
pervert kinky = 3 (none negative or related to crime)
pervert sadomasochist = 1 (about art)
pervert sadomasochism = 1 (about a book)
pervert sadomasochistic = 1 (same as directly above)
Even searching for "pervert violence" only leads to 41 articles, most of which are about perverting the course of justice. "pervert sadism" nets three crime articles, "pervert masochism" reveals two, with "sado-masochism" and kids. (btw, I checked and sado-masochism with the dash gets the same articles as sadomasochism without the dash.)
So, um, no, WE are not perverts. Though, as was suggested during the Great Pervert Debate of 2008, we should be careful about using it to name ourselves, as people might think we just like kiddies rather than a good spanking as kinky suggests. Edited Tue 7 Oct 08, 6:32 PM by skyfox

Just because people misuse words doesn't mean we should go along with it. Mind you, 'perversion' means the turning of something natural and good into something bad, so perhaps it's not such a good word after all. |
