Problem is that all 'mental illness' is opinion based. So you will only ever get an opinion based answer.

The definition and diagnosis of mental illness is not so much based on opinion as to the effect it has on society.

Someone doesn't 'fit' in our society, therefore they are mentally ill? That's me, for starters...

Having lived with someone who had severe mental health problems all I can say is that as long as those who know the person are aware and aren't bothered it doesn't matter, tbh.

I think that we all have our own little idiosyncrasies and foibles and some of them would probably qualify as mental illnesses. There are those who would argue that anyone into bdsm is mentally ill in the first place, so we're al loonies anyway!

Britain, Home of democracy no longer. Say goodbye to all your freedoms one at a time, but remember it's for YOUR safety!!! When will the people wake up to what's happening?

Yes WeyrlingMaster, it is the opinion of the Psychiatrists that anyone who is into BDSM has a 'mental illness'.

But to be honest most Psychiatrists I've worked with are totally bananas anyway!

That definition would have justified the locking away of political prisoners in mental institutions and drugging them, something that the Soviet Union used to do.

Why be religious when you can worship a Goddess for real.

In the case of the Soviet Union it was not the true definition but the Soviet governments interpretation and use of it for their own political ends to silence anyone who proves 'difficult'.
