To quote a certain Ms..."was a sad but brilliant day".
It was a very sad day, and yet a very magical one, too. The LAM to me is not just another market place, if it was, I wouldn't be there. My main reason for having a stall there month in month out, is not because I make much money from it by any means, what can I tell you, I'm a softy and I love being a little hidden part of someone else's smile. I can help to make someone's day by being there, see the smiles and laughter my one liners on the cards cause (knew my humour would be appreciated one day
) or lines that make people stop and think for a moment. I like that.
My main reason for being there is to 'support'. Not only have I been able to help with donations to my favourite Spanner, but to support the LAM itself in every way I have been able to, and will continue to. It is also to support the many who attend and get something out of their visits even if it just going home with a little more food for thought or something they've never seen before. I love to make people 'think' and the LAM is certainly an event that has done that on many levels what with the workshops, the shows, the openess and approachability to share knowledge in so many different areas.
I have only missed two during its two year run at the Grand, one, when my daughter was seriously ill in hospital where so many came to visit, helped me personally, and/or signed a huge card that really cheered her up (being as she's a LAM regular herself) and once when I myself was in a very bad way health wise for a little while. The support I have had from those who are simply there the minute they catch wind that they can do something to help and never ask anything in return, have always blown me away and leave me feeling very humbled. You are all an incredible bunch.
Yesterday when Cosmic was giving a speech on stage I really got choked up. Not just because of what Cosmic was saying but because for a moment there was a glimpse of 'David', the guy behind the name and as he spoke of how he has watched people grow over that time, I stood there with a smile and a tear in my eye knowing how he, himself, has grown; how we've all watched each other.
I feel not just proud, but very privileged to have not just watched, but taken part and also grown during the last couple of the years as I have received the very same support from the LAM itself.
The Clapham Grand is a very special place and you can't not soak in the history of the place and have flashes of the many events and performances that have been shown there over its decades, and that is the sad part. The LAM could only ever have been moved one month to date, and that was because of Bruce Forsythe holding his birthday bash at the Clapham Grand on a LAM day, but the man is a legend and only he could have made that happen
The LAM will be the LAM no matter where it is held because of the organisers, the crew, and everyone who is involved with it whether working or visiting.
But it is sad, and I will miss the building itself...though I can only smile knowing that the LAM will for now, and always be, a part of her very special history. Sitting here grinning at the thought of some medium or other in many, many years to come, picking up on someone who was known as 'the Lady of the LAM', smiling with her champers glass in hand ![]()
So, which lucky building is going to have a little LAM history in it, next? I'm looking forward to finding out and will be there - with bells on - specially ![]()

I've only missed 2 or 3 LAM's - it's like the perfect Sunday for me, spending it with friends, yummy crepes and watching the stage shows!

LAM at the Grand was so very special to me too.... Such wonderful memories. "Do you know what nemesis means? A righteous infliction of retribution manifested by an appropriate agent. Personified in this case by a horrible cunt... me." | ||
