In a somewhat-considered spur-of-the-moment I have quit my job this morning. The job with the office politics I hate. The job that denied me access to University this year. The job that has been the best paid job I have ever had. The final day is on the 31st. I have bills to pay, and no new job in sight. I've just been told I cannot get my pension contributions back, which I was relying on. I am petrified. I question my sanity after having walked away from a career. I don't now where I will end up in.

I am also relieved and very, VERY EXCITED :-D.

It takes a lot to guts to do someting like that and nerve to follow it through. I hope every thing works out ok in the end with you being better of than before. Just don't give up hope and belief in your self.

I walked out on jobs too but don't regret it. As for the pension - it has gone to a pension company right? I mean they haven't just taken them? If they have then get legal advice

Apparently it is in the contract that if you quit before your two years are up, then you get the money back. If you leave after, then it gets 'frozen'. The Union rep is on the case - if it all works out, then happy days, I will take a month off after paying my debts and alternate between sitting in a pub and a Starbucks :-D. If not, guess I just have to work like a normal person :-p..

Hi there Cortina

All the best I hope it works out

Sorry about the Pension news, I had to quit a job after 1 year and 364 days a few years ago as I needed the pension contributions back. it was a Friday when I handed in my written notice but HR did not process it until the Monday and they tried to get out of the pension refund. However after they realised I would spend all of the last month hassling HR rather than working and doing a handover they soon relented.

Good luck with the work hunting I am sure it will work out

Love n Hugs

Many thanks. I am optimistic - as my boss said to me today when we were having a cup of tea after 'the talk', 'with your training and brain, you'll be minted, driving a Lexus in two years and giving your old colleagues the finger' :-p..

This is great news! Seems the big year for you and me has officially kicked off!

Anyways, you can always go back to the job later in life and stir shit up much like Captain Rawling... best damn Captain the barn ever had. In fact, if you go back like her, I'll sign up and be Vic :-D

Well, my great year does not include Uni, sadly, but it's a start. And we'll see about Rawling - I think I am more Dutch that anyone :-p..you can be Vic, though!
