It's now 2 and a half months since I upped sticks from Newcastle and plonked myself into Sheffield.
I've near-on banished the smell of mothballs from my 70's-tastic flat, bought myself my very own bookcase, and have all my Harry Potters lined up in order of publication.
I've worked out where the bus goes, where the funky vintage shops are and how the tram system works.
I've managed to infiltrate my local munches (Sheff & Chesterfield), popped across the Snake Pass to Lash in an hour, and enjoyed a trip up to Kinkdom.
I've both started work and handed in my notice before starting Uni, and realised that vocational 9-5 Postgraduate study isn't quite the sitting-on-your-arse-doss job that made up the vast majority of my Undergrad degree. I've come to the conclusion that I will have very little social life over the next year, the possibility of spontaneous weekend trips to various places are slim to none, and that I will be completely out of touch with Jeremy Kyle by the time Christmas rolls around.
At the same time, I feel elated to be working flat-out doing something I love, with a University place I fought hard to get.
I've met locals, foreigners and expatriated North-Easterners. I've met some fantastically wonderful people, and been gutted at the very real possibility of the departure of one so soon. Of course, there are those who are stuck here for the next 3 years too ![]()
I'm at that stage where I feel happy, settled and proud to say I live in Sheffield.
I STILL haven't seen Phil Oakey in the bread aisle of my local Tesco though.
Cunt.

Make sure there's room in your 70's flat for a sheffield ex-pat visitor when the time comes. I will keep my eyes peeled for the baldy electro one for ya xx Equality is over-rated

Does this still mean you will be doing planned weekend trips to events? Or are you going to be one of those people I just seem to keep missing? What I say goes...
