An interesting article - it seems critical of sexual permissiveness and casual sex (which he seems to blame for him being accused of rape - it's not clear whether he actually raped her or not), although it also has a critical mention of the extreme porn law:

Under the law it is illegal to look at images of someone freely engaging in rough sex. That is to say: the act is legal, but looking at a photo of it is forbidden. George Orwell had a word for this: thought-crime. Another description might be misguided puritanism.

He also seems to be making a point about the problem of demonising "deviant" sex:

However, because we now mainly hide or deny our fears, or focus these fears on "deviant" sex, the rest of the time we are free to act in a dangerously amoral way, in a bedroom without basic rules.

Hmm, I note The Independent seem to be publishing quite a few of these sorts of articles recently - the categories http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/love-sex... and http://www.independent.co.uk/life-style/love-sex... have loads of articles for September.

Section 63 criminalises "extreme" images of consenting adults - see http://www.backlash-uk.org.uk/ and http://www.seenoevil.org.uk/wiki/index.php/Main_... .

It seems that the Independant has wised up to the number of cases which ahve seen succesful prosecutions under the Sexual Offences Act 2003 starting to be returned to the appeal courts as unsafe or even being overturned without a re-trial.

There are many websites showing up these miscarriages of justice, though the one I tend to read and i donate to to is www.safari-uk.org as they are only interested in the genuinely innocent.

With the chance of more people ending up on the wrong side of the law on the often the whim of a jury then I can see even m ore cases making to the appeal courts.
