The people are so... intense. I get the feeling it would be better to be as intensely alive as they are, even when they are miserable, than to just be half-alive as I always seem to be in comparison. I found the characters "real", not necessarily intense. I have to admit, (and I'm not bigging myself up or owt) that I feel that alive.
