I guess being Mancunian and a sadist, Admin is loving causing such frustration to the folk of Yorkshire. Figures, really

I think the point that Admin is trying to make is that it's a Manchester board, not a Lancashire board. So it wouldn't be a Yorkshire board it would have to be a York board, or a Sheffield one or a Hull one. And not enough happens in those individual cities to warrant a board of their own. Actually the city boards seem to be just fora for local arguments to fester (apart from the London one of course. we never argue), so perhaps it would be better not to have regional boards at all. Having said all that there does seem to be a large population in the north east that has no regional board, owing to the fact that they are scattered rather than connurbated. (is that a word?). Where are those good folks of the York, Sheffield and other Yorkshire munches supposed to do their backbiting and feuding? Actually I vote for a St Albans board. Bugger all happens there but it is very classy. proccie Zen S&M: The sound of one hand smacking.

Any other Lancastrian events plus events in Cheshire, Merseyside and Yorkshire within 50 miles of Manchester was considered as Manchester events.
There is four events in the actual North East alone this month - three in Aberdeen and one in Dundee. These two cities are not within 50 miles of either Glasgow or Edinburgh. All North East Scotland events which should probably be in the UK Events Boards only appear in the Glasgow Board. Regards, Bootssub

I think the idea is that the 'local' boards came from there being plenty of threads for that area... for example, it makes sense to keep the Londoners on their own board because they're so much going on down there that they'd drown everyone else out if they were on UK Events with everyone else. Similarly, Manchester and Birmingham both have reasonable large and active fetish communities, so it makes sense to give them boards of their own. Using that logic, until there are lots and lots of Yorkshire threads, there won't be a Yorkshire board. Tagging threads would actually not be a bad idea, I don't think. I live in Stoke-on-Trent, and we are almost exactly equidistant from Birmingham and Manchester - so Stoke threads could be on either board. If one could tag one's thread for location, one could simply search for all threads about events within X miles from a chosen location. The Rolls-Royce option, of course, would be to put the postcode of the venue in as the tag, so that the threads came up the same way as the personals ads. Which raises the question that, if tagging was introduced, would the regional boards be defunct? If one can search on location, then it wouldn't matter how many London threads were drowning out your single (but classy) St Albans thread - you would still be able to find it by using the tags.
Edited to add, Yorkshire born and bred, but despite it being God's own county it's still too far from Stoke-on-Trent to make it a practical night out... --A lady is never offensive... by accident.-- Edited 10 Sep 08, 10:08 PM by Mistress_Hypatia

Isn't it the case that people have requested something, not just one or two but a good many??? They haven't asked for re-writing of search tools, just a place to post with a name on it.... As admin have said
As has been mentioned regards Manchester, pretty much everything within a 50 mile radius is posted there, now take York, the historical centre of our wonderful county, as the centre you can include pretty much all of the areas within the county in a 50 mile radius give or take a few miles... There are plenty of threads/events in my mind to justify what is being asked for, it would enhance the site and encourage people to use it further, go back to the several people who have posted and said they are this side of the pennines and don't (use the site to search for events)!!!! Increased footfall = increased revenue, as an aside increased footfall also equals more comments/views/ideas/thoughts etc which to me is what IC is all about, a community sharing.... We could implement the current city boards with tags yes. So for instance, offer a link to a list of other threads with the same location tag and then a "Start new topic" button on that list, that pre-fills the location tag when you go to the page to fill out the title etc for a new thread. To the user, that just looks like another city board, but it's all done with event- or user-centered regions rather than a few cities or inappropriate regions. It's Yorkshire today. It will be a Humberside board tomorrow. Or a Cambridge board. Or Aberdeen because it's too far from the central belt etc etc. This comes up again and again, and in different non-geographic guises too (eg the story board request.) We're trying to find a general solution that makes the site easier to use: having 20 boards for increasingly small cities, towns and regions isn't a solution either, and the list of web boards is already getting unwieldy. We could just do stuff and not float ideas first, but that way we don't benefit from other people's ideas. The downside is putting up with people who just keep demanding the first idea that someone suggested. Admin Remember: it's only a website
