Even though I'm thousands of miles away, this makes me feel sick and scared - the BBC news on Gustav....
The mayor of New Orleans has ordered a compulsory evacuation of the city, describing the approaching Hurricane Gustav as "the mother of all storms".
At a news conference, Ray Nagin explained the arrangements to get people away from the city's West Bank and why people must not remain in the city as the hurricane approaches, three years after Hurricane Katrina.
He warned that people who refused to leave would be left "on their own".

my cousin and her husband, who live about 5 miles inland from the Mississippi coast (their last town and home closer to the gulf are no longer there, thanks to Katrina) boarded up their home and left in the RV last night, heading east. i've been watching the news closely, too - and it's damned scary..........
