I'm watching this programme about pedigree dogs on BBC1 at the moment and getting terribly upset 
I know why breeding dogs is bad, but I didn't know it's that bad!
My dog Billy was a mixture of Cockerspaniel - Collie (an accident of two breeding dogs...) and he had epilepsy and cancer twice in his life, the last time we had to put him down when he was 12 and the cancer was terminal. I've known so many pure breed dogs and nearly all had some kind of genetic disease - it makes me sick to the stomach that there are people out there that are inbreeding dogs like mad, just to get certain traits right! And if a pup doesn't have the right traits, it's culled!

Its sickening. And what i also hate is people breeding dogs for profit and not giving a fuck who they sell them too. oh yeah, but it highlights the problems quite well - to think there are so many animals in animal shelters that need a home, and then there are people that breed dogs just to show them off; I've helped out in animal shelters and it's disheartening to see dogs - or any kind of animals - being there ------ Come to the dark side - we have cookies! | ||

yes! all my past animals were rescue animals or animals from animal shelters, I refuse to buy anything in pet shops that offer live animals. ------ Come to the dark side - we have cookies! | ||

My dog is a rescue dog, I got her when she was 4 weeks old from a man who was going to kill her if I didn't give him 180 quid. I'm a softy for things like that, so I gave him the money and she has been with me ever since. Her mother was full staffy and because she had mated with a mongrel, he thought the pups were worhtless, I don't know what happened to her brothers and sisters M: Its only a baby needle, you wont know the difference.

on a slight tangent .. if these dogs are bred for the way they look ... show dogs who need to have certain physical charateristics to be be considered a top dog .. would the same thing happen to people ... or is it a case that these dogs are related ?

ok time to get roasted ( not in a good way) yes i breed dogs ... go on kill me my dogs are happy ... they spend thier time romping around the pastures with my ponys and when they want go off with CJ in the fishing boat i dont breed father daughter ... mother son ... no compatent breeder i know would !!! i only have a litter when i want a new pup to show .... this is usually every 2 to 3 yrs ... i have a waiting list for pups from all over europe because i breed quality not quantity ... all my pups either go to people i know or to thier friends .... or you dont buy a pup off me you join the family ... i expect to hear from my babies once a month to know whats happening to them... and yes i was top breeder ...with top stud dog ...brood bitch and top puppy all in one year ( that was a good year for us) please dont tar us all with this programs brush .... we care for this breed in doing that we make sure its kept for the future generations ... pixie chaos mayhem and desaster......my work here is done |
