on explaining to MoK that I had paid several arms and legs to the garage to make my car happy, , he explained that it probably needed servicing more than 1/6 years.
He went on to say that oil and plugs (plugs? it isn't an electric car) should be made happy more often. But not to worry as they are not difficult jobs........
I feel perhaps .......
that I may be going to learn........
simple car maintenance .
but surely that's what men are for

Lol, I trained to be a motor mechanic in the 80's, did my back in and had to take another direction. I won't do anything to a car these days, there's too much to bugger up! Jx http://www.flickr.com/photos/jezzebelle/

Oh no they aren't, today was a prime example a girl at work had a flat tyre at lunch 3blokes 40mins to apply jack to car (in wrong place)then stand about and complain jack didnt work! I finally got narked, applied trolleyjack ( Ok what do you mean you dont carry one normally?? Doesnt everyone??)to jacking point and asked if they wanted car jacking up assuming wheelnuts loosened, yes they said so car duly jacked up and lo and behold wheelnuts still tight. I gave up at this point as they hadnt even got the wheelbrace out dropped the car down and left them to it undoing nuts! Men!!! It took another hour for the tyre to get changed!

Were these 'men' the type who work in offices, maybe as company reps or sales people and drive expensive cars like Mercs? Because what you find is that there are few actual 'men' in that breed when it comes to doing simple hands on work. What I say goes...

No Men are should explain/demonstrate how its done then supervise and nag to ensure that it is done regularly. I know once every 6 years is regular but you should tell all your avid readers that the major part of the cost (probably one arm and both legs) was due to the spark plugs being welded into the engine requireing large amounts of force to remove them and then expensive repair work to remove the stuck bits after some broke rather than unscrewed. Just losening them up every 6 months would have saved that. Saying all that I am sitting here on a farm in Devon looking out the window at horizontal rain and a Landrover that "Wont Go". It looks from an initial investigation yesterday like the the bonnet has not been up this century!!! Let you know if I manage to get it going provided the rain slows down a bit.

Sometimes I lie awake at night, and I ask, "Where have I gone wrong?"/ Then a voice says to me, "This is going to take more than one night."" |
