People lie (24)
Hollytg's profile

I watch alot of Judge Judy. I've just figured out why. I can't get to grips with the fact that people lie. I mean, I know people have their own perspective on events, but that's different from an outright lie.
I don't really lie, so I have a problem believing other people do. I'm not saying look at how superior I am, I have plenty of flaws, but i don't see a need to lie so I just don't. It' makes for an easier life.
As judge Judy says "If you don't lie, you don't need a good memory"

I know someone who lies to impress people. And not just little white lies, but massive ones. She is a nice person, but her husband underminds her and makes her feel extreamly insecure. I have tryed for ages to tell her she is a worth while person but her husband has more sway with her than I do..so she goes on lying to make herself look good. xxx

couldn't agree more. lies are pointless , immature, always get found out and undermine every facet of a relationship.
Soo so stupid yet most seem to do it.

sorry but everybody lies...
to a degree or another..
'how are you?' says the friend? 'I'm utterly fine thanks' says the mate back (the translation being - I've had three god awful things happen this week but I know the easiest answer is/and the one expected is I'm fine!
'how do I look in this dress?' - 'just wonderful dear'
Have you had a good day at work - 'yes thanks'
etc etc I am unique, amazing, an individual and special!!! (just like every other fucker on the planet)

i agree with the above .... everyone lies ....
no your bum doesn't look big.
yes you look lovely
no i didn't shag anyone while you were away
nothing's wrong
can you imagine a world where people didn't lie .... where everyone told the truth ... i think it would be a lot more entertaining !!
all for one and fuck the rest !

I think the above lies are pretty harmless, also there is an expectation of a social lie in these sort of circumstances, so I am not sure it counts. On general lying though, I can't stand it.
ETA except the shagging one
ETA again - I mean that is not a social lie Edited 13 Aug 08, 9:43 AM by smallwitch

Have been guilty of lying myself, more than once, not something I'm proud of, and the feeling of guilt that accompanies said lie is terrible. I tend to try and rationalize to myself my reasons for lying but that only seems to make me feel worse!
It nearly, on more than one occasion, destroyed what me and my M have together, luckily, he saw past the lies. I have promised to never do it again, one I intend to stick to. Have realized (better late than never) that a 'little white lie' isn't worth losing what we have together.

It's a very rare person who doesn't lie, it's normal from about the age of four.
Another milestone in development(theory of mind)
Children who don't reach this milestone or who are delayed are disadvantaged socially.
Small white lies are the way society works.
These are done to keep the peace or so as not to hurt the feelings of others.
Think back to the age of innocence where a young child with tell someone they are fat etc.
After a certain age if the child were to say thi we wouold think they were rude and society would frown on them.
So in the world in which we live in for society to work as it does these lies serve a purpose.
So in an ideal world people wouldn't lie.

Yes most adults tell children it's wrong.
They try and teach the black and white.
In a black and white world lying is wrong.
Problem the world is not black and white and there lies the confusion,.
The world is grey!
