We're sure regular users will have noticed that IC's performance has deteriorated considerably at busy times recently, especially evenings and weekends. At the worst times, this results in complete failures, with an error page displayed instead of the link you've clicked We're pretty sure this is due to the system not having enough physical memory ("RAM chips") for the size of the database these days, and we're currently swapping things round to replace one of the servers for a shiny new one with a lot more memory. As a result of these rearrangements, picture loading was disrupted this morning and is a bit slower than normal as we've temporarily put one of the older servers back into service. We're hoping to get things running on the new hardware in the next couple of weeks, and in the meantime please bear with us. Thanks, Admin Remember: it's only a website

This evening I've upgraded my kid's laptop from 1Mb to 2Mb ram and it still runs like a dog. A dead dog. With no legs. Obligatory wanky Latin tagline: Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit

Out of curiosity, does it help reduce the load on the servers if users disable images in their browser? As it's a one button click in Opera I tend to try it if IC seems to be running slow as pages sometimes seem then complete when they were otherwise hanging. I'll never regret this, ...although I may rue and lament it

Not really, since the pictures (usually) come from a different server to the main one which is the one that is overloaded. Regards, Admin

My kid's computer. He has filtering software which wouldn't let his machine anywhere near IC! Obligatory wanky Latin tagline: Neque porro quisquam est qui dolorem ipsum quia dolor sit amet, consectetur, adipisci velit

Admin, I don't pretend to know what you're going on about when you tell us the technical stuff, but thanks for keeping us informed and thanks for your continued work to keep IC running. A dirty mind is a joy for life.

Non-technical explanation: Currently the magical box of webiness that is getting replaced is the equivalent to '150 of us livin' in't shoe box in't middle a road.' New magical box of webiness will be like '150 of us livin' in't nice part a town, where wi can 'ave friends round an' still 'ave space to relax an' spread out an' enjoy a nice glass of Chateau de Chassilier.' What I say goes...

Any chance you could get a job rewriting all the instruction leaflets and manuals that come with absolutely everything bought these days? It just makes so much more sense the way you write it! http://desocialized.com/ |
