One of my earliest memories which I now associate with kink was my fascination with Hieronymus Bosch, and of course his darker works rather than the pictures of paradise! I'd be interested to know which artists not openly connected to BDSM have provided inspiration for pervery to other people. |

Bosch was one I studied In History of Art. But I've always been one of the more surreal and unexpected artists I guess, my GSCE exam piece was BIRTH and DEATH, the grim reaper holding a new born, created by hand and took me a long time to create. Art has so many meanings but for some like myself, they hold lasting memories. And perhaps yes, add to why I am like I am today. A rose by any other name has thorns that will still make you bleed. |

Beardsley was a huge turn on. Bosch too but in a quite different way. |

So many Egon Schiele or Max Beckmann or something more contemporary Sarah Lucas' Chicken Knickers for instance... and how could I ever leave out Helen Chadwick's Piss Flowers... Edited 31 Jul 08, 5:02 PM by DDDDom |

What an interesting crop of replies. I love Beardsley too - and the whole era. I remember being also very taken with Degas's nudes. There seems to be an air of, I don't know, some hint of D/s about them. And I was amazed that in an era when people wore so many clothes, it was fine to stare at a nude if she was only a painting. Seeing them in trivial daily, personal moments, like bathing or brushing their hair, seemed voyeuristic too. Edited 31 Jul 08, 8:59 PM by Scribbles |

I am with Top Man. Beardsley's Dancer's Reward did it for me, I can remember being haunted by th image as a kid. I liked it so much I based my PhD thesis on his work. Harry Clark also has a certain something... |

Sardax's work that I love most has strong echoes of Beardsley - mmm! |
