Really sad. Yesterday I read interviews with people of eighty and upwards who had so many childhood memories tied up with the pier, and their children and grandchildren too.

Incredibly sad - we are losing so much British Seaside Heritage with the loss of Weston Pier, the recent fire at the Dreamland Park in Margate and other deteriation around the country.

I remember playing on Weston Pier, gutted the kids won't be able to.

Looks like i'll have to take them to Blackpool. ...It seemed like a good idea at the time...

aye, but it can never be re-built with its history, there was a plaque on the south facing side of the pavillion which was built in memorandom of the manager during the second world wars only son who died in battle,
And I dunno about you but always when I visit historic places I always start to wonder who walked and what happened where I'm walking, if that makes sense?
her that is lower than earthworm jim in a leopard print Get fucked! Is that grovelling enough?

That's really sad, how upsetting for all those connected with the place.
Listening to the news report they *do* say that nobody was injured in the fire, which is at least something to be grateful for, given the scale of the blaze.
What sad news. ------------------------------------------

I watched it on the news and it is very sad.
It is a place I have never visited but always wanted to.
Something like that holds so many happy memories for people of days out, holidays etc and to see any land mark destroyed is always a loss.
I hope they can rebuild it.

I have memories of a wonderful day spent on Weston pier...
I have some not so good memories of Weston with another person, though there must have been good times for me to have made the trip every two weeks... http://www.flickr.com/photos/jezzebelle/
