UK Whip Convention From a Non-Combatants POV! (7)

I had such fun yesterday at the Whip Convention. We all like to be useful, and I was put to work taking money on the door and selling raffle tickets. We had a good crowd, a mix of the circus crowd (nice boys from Oxford who *tried* to teach me poi) and fellow kinksters.

I think it showed the high level of teaching yesterday that there were several complete beginners who managed to crack a whip and hit targets, well enough to win prizes.

Himself has never really taught before and I smiled a lot to see how well He managed. Modest as ever, He insisted that He was learning more than His students, but as Herself wisely commented, that is the sign of a good teacher.

Despite me bouncing up and down and cheering for them, neither of mine won anything (shame!) but Himself is now the proud owner of a beautiful 8' Murphy bullwhip from the 'Bring and Buy' stall. He has promised to practise His wrapping :-) Oh good!

So all in all, a successful and enjoyable event, in a fabulous venue.

Yes, great fun. And wonderful to meet so many good folks - the crossover between the fet peeps and the straight forwards whip enthusiasts seems to run very easily. It strikes me (arf) how inclusive a scene it is. One does have to be very aware that some non-kinksters are not keen on what we do, though, and probably don't understand the fet use at all, so in the interests of all it has to be treated as a completely vanilla event.

Got to extend big big thanks to Mick and everyone else on the organisational team. Not just for the event itself, which was really well run, in a great place, relaxed and ever so welcoming even to a numpty newbie to all this like me. The BBQ was outstanding, really proper job, and a chance to play with firewhips! Amazing. 'The weather was against us' looks like this summer's mantra.

Lots of images in my head, May with the Anaconda, the guys swapping notes and tips so freely on building their whips, so good to see Foxi again, been too long. Picked up loads of ideas, and what a great place to try out my new whips, even if I just arsed about making a load of noise, bullwhip in a chinashop style.

And of course big thanks to Caracal for the driving after our car was bricked the night before, bastards.

Now go and tell an egg how to suck granny.

OOOOOOH sounds great fun, wish I had known about it although it was probably a million miles away. Glad you had a good time though.

What a day!

I first picked up a whip less than two years ago and instantly fell into a passion over them. I love their power and grace and the satisfaction of getting one under control despite it's best efforts to whack me round the head. It is the best instant hit post work stress buster that I have found so far and I can't see my love for them diminishing.

I couldn't get to the convention last year but determined to go this year and was so pleased that I did. There were people I wanted to catch up with again and also to meet those who had just been names on various fora. A slight diversion to Bristol to pick up May and Jahc99 after their misfortune and off we set. I always seem to have interesting times with these two lovely people so it was the least I could do. Hugs.

Grand venue and good location for all comers, plenty of room for everyone to be using whips, loads of information sharing and tips and I got my lovely matched pair of Essentia whips florentining for the first time. I was soooo chuffed - being a rather uncoordinated and non-athletic person, I never thought I could get them whirling around as I did and just kept going back for more. My new nylon snakes also performed well if a little (lot) faster than the bullwhips. Lots of ouchy moments with those new babies but I still have two ears and eyes if a little less dignity.

I also did something I thought I would never do in my life. Around 18 months ago, a dear man gave me a private firewhip show on a beach in Lanzarote and every time I have watched the recordings, I didn't imagine in my wildest dreams that I would have the nerve to pick one up and have a go. Well I have now thanks to the generosity of Mick and it was AMAZING to have a 5 foot rope of fire under my control, whirling it around my head and letting off fireball cracks. I was jumping up and down with glee afterwards to the amusement of all onlookers and am just waiting for the camera to charge enough to download the video footage.

All in all, it was a very good event and many thanks to Mick and the other organisers for putting this on. It promotes the good and safe use of whips in a vanilla environment and is a great fun day.

Glad you enjoyed yourselves, we couldn't have done it without everyone who helped on the day and the likes of Tony & Mel(Essentia) and Dave and Jo (the Whipstore) who donated whips for prizes.

The enthusiasm of the participants and the willingness to share and help really stood out. I think the best part of the day was watching complete beginners who'd never touched a whip before the convention, participate in and winning in the various competitions.
