I was just wondering if you can actually still call a cucumber sandwich a cucumber sandwich if it has ham in it - or would you then call it a ham and cucumber sandwich.
Would calling it a cucumber sandwich be dependant on the proportion of ham there was in it? What if it was a cucumber sandwich made of cucumber that had been soaked in ham brine alone?

I can see that if one were a vegetarian (or Jewish or Muslim) then the previous use to which the pickling liquor had been put may well be important. Ham being of high value, and good source of protein, would in my book constitute the most important ingredient in naming a sandwich. By law ingredients are listed by order of weight. So it may be possible to have a sandwich, where cucumber is the second heaviest ingredient (after bread). So logically it could be construed to be a cucumber sandwich, even if it contained other fillings other than cucumber. Like pig. proccie

A cucumber sandwich just has cucumber as the filling; could have dressing on the cucumber - salad cream, mayo etc. If there is ham in it, that makes it a cucumber and ham [order depend on quantity - largest first] SIMPLE!!!! To Protect and Support, To Guide and Correct,

Sounds to me like an obsessive needs to classify things and put them into neat pigeonholes. I'm afraid that life, BDSM, male/female, sub/dom/swicth, and sandwiches are just not like that!. It's like everything else, if you like ham in your cucumber sandwiches, then good luck to you, and don't let others question your taste. Personally, I'm more for bacon sandwiches with maple syrup!. Are they sweet or savoury?. silverswitch | |

But it then it is a cucumber and ham sandwich!!! I was not questioning Violently's question of taste in sandwichs. To Protect and Support, To Guide and Correct,
