Erm... have you stayed in a hotel in the last 50 years or so?

Aye, I've been saying in hotels quite a bit recently, and the room staff I have seen are universally in trousers, shirts and tabards, and about 50/50 in terms of gender.

The cleaning staff should be all but invisible as far as I'm concerned, I don't care what sex they are, and I suspect neither does the employer...

Good luck with your career change.

As a male "maid", I'm seriously considering making a career change from an unstimulating and sedantry office job to become a full time "room attendant" in a London hotel.

The only barrier (apart from being male and middle-aged) is my lack of previous experience in a hotel. I've worked as a part-time cleaner for a number of Dom/mes over the years, but never been employed by a hotel. It's a chicken and egg situation. Most hotels and recruitment agencies insist on between 2 to 6 months relevant experience of cleaning hotel rooms.

I am considering applying for some unpaid work experience in a hotel (which I could do while taking holiday leave from my day job). But I expect most personnel managers will think it strange, even weird, that a 40 year old Englishman is trying to change career to a job mainly done by young non-British females. The only time I've ever seen male chambermaids was at a hotel in Ireland, where one was a young Oriental guy and the other was an older/semi-retired Irishman (perhaps a sub "maid"?). Some London hotels employ almost exclusively Polish girls, who are still learning English.

My career change desire is not a cheap fantasy. I genuinely enjoy cleaning and serving - and I feel doing this work on a full-time basis would bring me deep internal satisfaction ahd happiness. I would be highly motivated, and I would get lots of exercise and interaction with colleagues and guests.

I guess I should just be honest (not about BDSM element) about having no direct experience, but with related relevant experience and tranferable customer service skills - and about being bored by office environment and keen to make complete change - and about flexibility to work weekends, early shifts etc. And that the minimum wage would not be an issue for me.

If I was the Personnel Manager, I wouldn't risk employing a male applicant with a completely un-related work history. I might offer such an applicant a role in an office taking reservations or as a receptionist - but not on the frontline cleaning rooms - I'm sure the guests also prefer seeing young female maids in their pretty uniforms.

Anyway, on the positive side I'm planning to do my week's work experience in September - will spend the next week contacting hotels.

Any suggestions welcome. Perhaps I should wait until a BDSM hotel is opened in London (see the previous posting on this) or keep maiding just for the Muir Academy (but it's not enough!) - cleaning and serving is like a drug, I just want more of it.

i took a job as a 'porter' in a hotel years ago. Primary reason being I was out of work but I did hope to 'scratch some itches'.

Big dissapointment, the mistake I made was it was a 3 star hotel. My hopes of 'fetching and carrying' for 'the landed gentry' were dashed as it was a 'carry your own luggage' hotel. I wound up as mainly a cleaner, but with the heavier jobs thrown in.

Only near miss I had, was there was a bit of a Dommely type staying there on her own. I made a point of passing her as often as I could and smiling etc when I did.

Then one teatime as I was about to knock-off, I noticed her in the bar alone. Quick shower and change later I found out I was strongly discouraged from using the hotel bar. Think i jacked it in there and then.

Pity your not in Leeds, you could have a full time job cleaning my place, just as long as you didn't want paying LOL

Jinx...although I would be able to pay...lol

Cleaning hotel rooms must be among the less skilled jobs around. Not surprisingly, they are often the first job for foreign immigrants with no or little English and no work references. In real life, Personnel Managers and employment agencies see it as a job for the unskilled. There is very little frontline about this job, and as Mistress Nikki says, cleaners are almost invisible and have hardly no contact with the guests, they even use different lifts and stairs.

Sorry to put the mockers on this, but you'll be lucky to make National Minimum Wage - you'll have a set number of rooms to do per hour and be paid by the room. You may not be able to clean the room to your own personal satisfaction and therefore make you feel demoralised.

I have worked as a hotel manager for quite a while in a few different places, generally speaking I don't think experience is all that important if the person giving the interview thinks you look capable and might stick around in the job for more than 5 mins then they will offer you the position.

You will be expected to clean a set number of rooms in a specific time (the length of your shift), generally the hotel is divided up into sections and each person is given a section to clean usually 10-14 rooms. Most chain hotels do have a set way that they like everything to be done and this can be down to the last tiny detail, though other smaller chains might let you have more freedom. I have never encountered a decent hotel where people are paid per room, all the maids would just go round with a duster and then say they have cleaned 45 rooms each.

Dear Natalia,

There have been some excellent responses on here already and some sound advice; another avenue is working for a charity. They are less judgemental about dress and you would be working for a worthwhile organisation and could fit around a more stable occupation.

Part of my previous job involved a great many hotel stays and I can safely say that there appears to be a great many more male Hotel Cleaners/Chambermaids than there were 7/8 years ago so it may be easier than you imagine.

Good luck, thank you for the post and I wish you every success. Please keep IC posted as to your progress.

Steve

Interesting threads.I have done domestic before but the idea of doing it full time for a living, not sure i could do that.

Maybe it would be interesting to research if there are any small b+b's around with female owners,or is it a large hotel you require?

Well work for Butlins in Bognor they are always after housekeeping staff. I have done a few seasons with them on Housekeeping. So long as you can turn up for a interview they will hire you.

Want good virgin sex? Once in a life time offer.
