I don't really watch TV so hadn't seen this advert until I heard about it on the radio 2 lunch time phone in today.
I usually ignore the phone in and read my book but my ears pricked up at comments “the gays”, “repulsive”, “difficult for children to understand”, homophobia shoved down your throat”.
I immediately looked up the advert on youtube to see what all the fuss was about.
Oh my god. What is wrong with people in this country. 2 men exchange a simple kiss on TV and the narrow minded tabloid reading public of the UK are up in arms. I can't even begin to describe my anger and frustration. People made comments of it not being natural and it shouldn't be shown to children. Words fail me, they really do!
I am buying a jar of that god damn mayonnaise every week this month even though I don't even eat mayonnaise.
I vote for more men kissing on day time TV!

I saw it being discussed on telly last night, and the opinion was that people should *not* buy the product - to show Heinz that they aren't pleased that they gave in! judy

Gah bollocks & fuckery! that is a fabbo ad. you know what? Stick it up their collective bums. And not in a good way. It's normal for a decent amount of society, so why not? And besides we all know that the ad's not really promoting any type of "lifestyle", it's just promoting having a delicatessen in your kitchen (wouldn't we all love one of those?). How do we go about dealing with the closed minded people? It seems they have more of a voice than us? Do we have to tackle them head on? Not that I'm spoiling for a fight lol,

I actually tried to call the show today, it struck me that a lot of people were trying to push their own agenda. Sorry to say both sides of the debate were talking rubbish, I saw the ad, laughed and took it as it was meant to be. " hard working mum, who we all know have to many different jobs to fill in the family setting" so they need to represent her in the style of a new york deli manager. best way to do that show "her" as a a guy from the Bronx using their new products. but the whole ad was loaded with irony, whatever happened to the British sense of humor.
Glad I'm from another plant!!! be good, or else! Edited 24 Jun 08, 10:05 PM by The_Dark_Knight |
