Thanks kitana. The item was much more of a paddle than a crop and very suitable as a gift. The business end is two ovals of thick black leather - makes a lovely sharp noise (just like a crop but with more coverage!) and the stem of the handle forms an unimportant short ridge which doesn't affect the use.
The furry side was grey in our case. The feel and the colour were both very much appreciated by my grateful spankee  . The colour achieved by using the leather side was very much appreciated by me!
The other suppliers had some good looking products - just not quite matching our low-key needs. Hope they make a few sales from this airing ... all advertisers benefit us by helping keep IC in existence.

Yes, the owner has moved to the UK and I think he's intending to re-start the business, based here. Not sure what the time scale is, though. ~ Also known as catherine_winkworth
