Bikerbutch - I never said, or even implied that admin don't know what is going on with their own site. I was pointing out that an IP address is NOT positive proof as they can be hi-jacked or used by a third party with knowledge of the usual 'owner'. I know that admin has said it was the same IP address for all the posts and I have no reason to dispute that, but it is not beyond the realms of impossibility for someone else to have obtained and then hi-jacked that IP address. Indeed, should I want to I know that I can use 2 other networks to surf the 'net as they are of poor security. I would then appear to be, to all intents and purposes, the IP address of that particular internet connection. Britain, Home of democracy no longer. Say goodbye to all your freedoms one at a time, but remember it's for YOUR safety!!! When will the people wake up to what's happening? | |

In fact, Admin was careful to state "same computer" not "same IP address", since the difference does indeed matter.
Over the weekend, IC has received a specific threat from the_pervert to
report IC to The Authorities Since we do not give into blackmail, and since the_pervert has called Admin's competency and motives into question, we are going to outline the proof we hold that slave_master and ubberfem were sock puppets created and used by the_pervert the_pervert recently gave Admin a rather tedious lecture about home networks, shared broadband and how IP addresses work. Rather than repeat it, let's try an analogy: some companies have an automatic switchboard and everyone's phone calls go out through that switchboard and shared phone line. If someone from that company calls you, and you do 1471 or caller-ID to find their number, you get the number of the switchboard, not the extension number of their desk phone. Most houses with shared broadband access work the same way: every website on the internet only sees a single IP address (internet phone number if you like) whichever computer in that house is being used to look at it. Unfortunately, the_pervert's understanding of the internet and the web seems to stop at the point, and that is presumably why he was so confident in denying that he created and used slave_master and ubberfem. His claim to Admin is that some guest in his house must have done it with another computer, and he and toptotty have stated to Admin they are certain those profiles were not posting from their computers.
However, when you sign-in to your profile on IC you establish a session: you
give your profile name and password once, and stay signed in with that
session whichever pages you then look at. You don't need to keep giving your
password, because your web browser maintains the session ("Yes, I'm still
Admin!") for you in the background. Crucially, the session only applies to
one account on one computer: otherwise other people on a shared network
would see themselves signed-in as you, and it would all be very
confusing When the_pervert created and used the slave_master and ubberfem profiles, he switched back and forth between his real and sock-puppet profiles. We can see this because fragments of the session information overlap between what you're doing first, then onto the sign-out page, the sign-in page and then onto what you're doing as the next profile. We can also see other people using the same IP address in that same house, but we can see they are on different accounts on different computers, because the session information is also different. Now all this proof buried in IC's log files, which themselves are automatically deleted after 3 or 4 weeks, and it's tedious to for us to dig out these overlaps and correspondences. That's why we can't automatically identify sock-puppets and only go hunting for them if a specific sock-puppet profile is reported or otherwise draws attention to itself. However, in this case a specific claim was made that slave_master was a sock-puppet, so we had a look, confirmed it and gave him the opportunity to identify that profile as his sock-puppet in his profile descriptions (which he ignored) - presumably because it had only been used to attack people on the Pro-Mistresses board, including LadyPandoraCP. Later we found ubberfem by looking even deeper: this was a fake female profile, claiming to be a twenty something submissive from Essex (not Merseyside!) with a personal ad, and no doubt wasting a lot of guys time.
If you're still here well done At 23/May/2008:18:06:53 the_pervert signed-out using the computer he had been using that day, then read the Sign-up Guide to IC, then at 23/May/2008:18:08:58 went to the sign-up form. By 23/May/2008:18:10:24 he was finished creating that new profile (and the confirmation email would have been sent.) He then did this again between 23/May/2008:18:13:48 and 23/May/2008:18:14:13 to create another new profile and confirmation email. At 23/May/2008:18:21:49 he signed in as slave_master for the first time (which requires the activation code from the confirmation email) and at 23/May/2008:18:29:11 as ubberfem for the first time. Despite being in "Essex", ubberfem tried to make a reply to a thread on the Manchester board at 23/May/2008:18:29:58, modified "her" profile and finally signed-out at 23/May/2008:18:42:50 Still on the same computer because we can see the sessions overlap, he glanced at the Active Topics page and then signed back into his main the_pervert profile at 23/May/2008:18:42:58 (ie 8 seconds after he signed out as ubberfem .. clickety, click click!) Now, on to the slave_master posts on this thread which prompted other members to ask if slave_master was a sock puppet. He deleted these posts when confronted about sock puppets, but you can still see chunks of them quoted by other people. slave_master made several posts on that thread, so let's just deal with one in response to LadyPandoraCP. At 08/Jun/2008:22:23:21 he signs in as the_pervert, goes to his bookmarks and by 08/Jun/2008:22:24:12 is on the page showing LadyPandoraCP's recent posts. At 08/Jun/2008:22:24:17 he follows the link to one of her posts on this thread. He reads some more of the thread, but instead of posting what he thinks as the_pervert, at 08/Jun/2008:22:28:49 signs-in as slave_master, and then posts a reply at 08/Jun/2008:22:31:27 as slave_master! We don't appreciate having to dig out details like this to defend accusations about our competency and motives. But if people choose to misuse the site, then deny it, then attack us in public, then try to blackmail us into submission, we will spell out our reasons for identifying them as sock puppets.
