Coming from a working class (whatever that is) Glaswegian background, I have an instinctive knee jerk dislike of all things “Tory”, but I really can't help admiring Margaret Thatcher. Exclude the politics and she has many of the characteristics that I admire in a woman: smart, ambitious, forceful, dynamic and relentless.

Now with Andrea Riseborough playing the young Margaret Roberts in the “The Long Walk to Finchley” on Thursday we are apparently going to see her as a sexually manipulative minx.

I still struggle to accept it, but when I look at the likes of Hazel Blears, Tessa Jowell and Harriet Harman, part of me yearns for the certainly of a Thatcher.

There were many in the far left who hated her policies but admired her "conviction" and yes she had a sexual attraction to many (not me mind you on that score )
Being "handbagged" by Margaret was quite an experience.

I did expect that someone would respond exactly like this, so I was very careful to differentiate the characteristics from the politics.

Thatcher was the enemy and still is as far as many of us are concerned. Being powerful and effective or even sexy (though I never thought her so) does not make up for being wrong on so many scores; cruel, abusive, nasty, devious, but above all having a world view which wants to move us away from being a civilised society to a jungle. Sorry - I'm not often nasty about people but she destroyed so much that was good.

I loathe and detest everything Maggie stood for, greed, selfishness, the devil take the hindmost attitude, the destruction of manufacturing industry, the selling of the national wealth...
But, despite myself, I can't help admiring the person - god help me!

This women was very clever, she was the one that invented the way ice cream was more fluffy, so as to make more profit for the ice cream companies, they did not have to make as much anymore to make the same amount of profit,
Her ability to sleep for only four hours a night, as that's all I need, was induced by a bit of speed, not the normal street stuff, but the posh stuff! [and that's a fact]
And gosh, all that crap about smoking is bad for you that she started? Guess what when she left number 10, she started working for BAT……such a lovely lady.
and she gave away the ability for us working classes to find social housing, by allowing councils to sell council property.
