Hello IC-ers,
I'm about to purchase my first "proper" corset (after years of prom dresses and cheap 'play' corsets, I decided that it was time to bite the bullet), and I'm purchasing it from the 'made to measure' section of a reputable website.
After tussling in the bathroom with a tape measure - no mean feat with a Siamese cat constantly chasing the end - I've discovered that my measurements are irritatingly bang in the middle - there's a lot of half-inch action going on.
Would that half-inch make a real difference? Should I go a measurement up, or a measurement down? Do I either suck it in, or push it out?
Also, I'm just nudging 5'5", but have a long body and short legs - would I get away with a corset designed for a woman over 5'7" on account of my torso being so irritatingly long?
Help!

Down! Every time! I still have a corset that was a faintly overoptimistic purchase, but it still looks pretty good even with a bit more of a gap at the back. You really don't want it to close easily because it'll mould to your shape the more you wear it and unstiffen, etc.

If the corset makers are good then won't they know what to do with those half inches? Or are you ordering it on one of those sites where you are given a choice of measurements to fill in and they are all whole numbers rather than ??.5"? Heh, me lead you? Lady look at me, I don't even know where the hell I am half the time!

Site with whole numbers. I trust them, however - been recommended on many an occasion, and from someone with a long torso like me! I'm just awkward xxx "When you're going through hell, keep going."

Oh yes, and squishing is what corsets are best at doing! The only 'perfect' fitting corset I have is a made to measure, though I am a weird shape (really short body and longer legs; definite hourglass but with not much boobage...) and know lots of other people who've bought off the peg and it's fitted beautifully.

If it is a made to measure service they should accept 1/2 inches
As for the body length, again that is something a good corsetiere should be able to sort out to make it fit. Do they do fittings at all? If you are very out of the ordinary then it would be worth having one As the makers know their sizing and such best I'd send them an email and ask their advice too. Hope this helps!!! Miss Kitty

You're the same as me, lovely, with the long torso thing, which is why the S style is probably a good one - works for me anyway in keeping my stomach squished in! Give them a ring if you aren't sure - they are very very helpful. xxx My imaginary friend thinks that you have a problem |
