Have we all turned into Americans? (22)

Why is it that everybody these days talks about their 'ass' instead of their 'arse'? I know that the British have a sycophantic love of the American culture, but really, an arse can't be mistaken for a donkey, and an ass can. So let's use the British word which completely avoids ambiguity, eh?

Nothing to do with xenophobia. Everything to do with preserving the natural distinctions of our language. And if you doubt that we are being swamped by American culture, just use your eyes and ears. When British actors use fake American accents to sell products, things have come to a pretty pass. |

Where have all the children gone? It seems that the people of this country have been having congress with the devil and then going on to have sex with him as well. As now all the children have been replaced with goat people. Everywhere you look there are kids. The government should do more to combat this bestiality, but I guess they are too busy licking the devil's ass. Heh, me lead you? Lady look at me, I don't even know where the hell I am half the time!

They're actors, it's their job to use fake accents. If they were using Chinese, Irish or Nigerian accents, would you be complaining? Probably not.
American culture and British culture are intertwined by virtue of us having similar languages. They're not the same, true, but their similarity means that they're compatible. So obviously there will always be some bleed-through on both sides, that's how cultures grow and change, and not stay the same, which is a very bad thing imho.
I have to wonder why some people think that Anti-Americanism is acceptable, when any other kind of xenophobia is considered to be heinous.

And yet it's not acceptable to be pro English/British by wanting English/British people to use English/British terms rather than American. And it's amazing how many people seem to think that not liking the US government means that all of the US is hated. Heh, me lead you? Lady look at me, I don't even know where the hell I am half the time!

If they were using Chinese, Irish or Nigerian accents to sell Chinese, Irish or Nigerian goods I would not. If they were doing so because Chinese, Irish or Nigerian accents seemed to confer a kind of sophistication, then yes I would.
You really seem to be incapable of separating the point I am trying to make from my own view, which you assume, but which you don't know. For your information, there are many things I admire very much about the American culture; some things, indeed, that I love. But I also love what is known as the Queen's English, and when a word becomes virtually unusable without qualification, like 'billion' because of a slavish eagerness to adopt a foreign meaning, then I do object.

There's no such thing. And hasn't been for many years now. Like I said, cultures change.
And I don't think that anyone who hates the US government hates everyone in the US.
However, I do think that people who complain about Brits using Americanisms by saying 'Let's keep Britain British!' are xenophobes. Just like De Gaulle was in France, when he tried discouraging English phrases from the French language.
There's better things to worry about. Too many mother -uckers, -uckin' with my shi-...
