It has come to my attention that people are clicking my profile/blogs to find out what to do about the Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill section relating to possession of extreme images (pornography). When you click me now there is so much info on this stuff it's hard to access simply WHAT TO DO ABOUT IT RIGHT NOW. So here's the one page version.

The Bill is passed by MP's and we now need to get the Lords to turn up to and either vote for scrapping this Bill altogether, or vote for some of the amendments. The extreme porn amendments are by Lord Wallace Of Tankerness, Baroness Miller Of Chilthorne Domer and (for one of them) Lord McIntosh Of Haringey.. The final decision will be made on the 30th April and the Queen will give this Bill her Royal Assent on 9th May. That's really really soon.

.

THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO:

Contact members of the House of Lords about Criminal Justice and Immigration Bill [Part 5 - Criminal law - Section 63 Possession of extreme pornographic images. Ask them to vote for scrapping this section Bill altogether or vote for the amendments proposed by Lord Wallace Of Tankerness, Baroness Miller Of Chilthorne Domer or (for one of them) Lord McIntosh Of Haringey.

THAT'S ALL. it doesn't take that long to write a letter but it might just be the letter to the peer who tips the balance in our favour. They need to understand how many ordinary law abiding citizens are concerned about this Bill or may be personally affected by it.

.

who to contact..

see messages lower down from backlash and xjames.

.

HOW TO DO IT ONLINE.

You can send a fax to any member of the House of Lords by selecting their name from this page and following the links to contact them. http://www.theyworkforyou.com/peers/

.

HOW TO DO IT BY POST.

Letters should be addressed to individual Members at The House of Lords, London, SW1A 0PW. Mail is delivered to the Lord in the House or forwarded to another address - be aware of this.

.

HOW TO DO IT BY PHONE:

Call the main Parliament switchboard on 020 7219 3000. If the Lord has a listed telephone number, the operator will try to connect you. Or, you can leave a message with the Message Service on 020 7219 5353.

.

HELP TO WRITE LETTERS:

Some sample letters are here and a list of some of the people who have already had messages from community members - we need to write to them ALL: http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/weblogs/Degener...

Full information is on the Backlash Website here about the campaign: http://www.backlash-uk.org.uk/

if you want to join in and are struggling to do it on your own, memo me for moral support OR join in with sending a letter 130 of us have personalised and sent already. I can post one for you or you can fax or mail the lords it directly as above - see this thread for information: http://www.informedconsent.co.uk/weblogs/Degener...

.

DON'T TAKE THIS LYING DOWN!

Good luck with your letters - it's definitely best to write your own letters and send as many as you can, but there's other ways to join in if you can't.

Whatever you do, doing something is better than doing nothing. Between us we are helping create more votes against this worrying Bill as is, this Bill which is going to make possessing a lot of BDSM imagery illegal and punishable by three years in jail and listing on the sex offenders register..

Just a correction - I don't think there are any amendments by Lord Waddington?

The extreme porn amendments are by Lord Wallace Of Tankerness, Baroness Miller Of Chilthorne Domer and (for one of them) Lord McIntosh Of Haringey.

Last nights vote on the porn laws - what to do now :

If anyone missed it, you can watch it here. Fast forward to 06:50. http://www.parliamentlive.tv/Main/VideoPlayer.as... -- Thanks Judy.

.

You can also read the text here:

http://www.publications.parliament.uk/pa/ld20070...

.

In short, a number of Lords were very eloquent about why the law is "thought crime" and should be opposed.

Lord Hunt of King's Heath -- for the government -- said the images are revolting and should be illegal. And refused to adress any of the objections raised ny the Lords.

In the face of this intransigence, Baroness Miller called for a vote on pulling the law altogether.

The vote was lost 66-33.

But this means her other amendments -- including the defence drawn up by Liberty -- can be laid again before the Third Reading on April 30th.

In the meantime Lord Hunt conceded there should be a new defence -- which he will lay before the Third Reading.

"I am aware that the noble Lord has concerns about individuals who keep a record of themselves freely and willingly participating in bondage, domination, submission and sado-masochistic practices in which no unlawful harm occurs. I recognise that it would be anomalous for a person to be committing an offence by possessing an image of an act which he undertook perfectly lawfully. We intend to introduce at Third Reading a defence which addresses precisely that situation."

Letter writing needs to start in earnest now to persuade the "not contents" and others to vote for the Lib Dem amendments and to explain why Lord Hunt's suggested new defence is inadequate.

As well as writing to Lords who might be swayed or who voted last night or told you they would vote but didn't, everyone should write to Lord Hunt today -- before he puts the new amendment -- to explain what you think it should say.

If you're feeling super brave call the House of Lords and ask to be put through to his office.

those voting blow are the lords who voted last night on the amendment suggested (taking oout section 63). those listed as not content are those who are supporting the legislation as is - these may be some of the lords worth writing to to try to persuade to our point of view. I expect it's also a good idea to write to other lords if they may be willing to attend and vte on 30th april for scrapping this section or for some of the amendments proposed.

Sorry to miss you. We would have won the vote if the Conservatives had voted with us but they chose to abstain. Maybe you could all write to David Cameron and ask him why? Thanks so much for your support and work so far. I am shocked that any Government wants to interfere in people's private lives for no good reason. Yours Sue

Note, there is no ".co." in these addresses. If you put one it it'll just bounce.

David Cameron's email address begins Camerond

Lord Kingsland's begins Kingslandc

Lord Strathclyde's begins Strathclydet

I've done it like this to stop web spiders picking up their addresses from this site.
