Maybe you ARE artists and your art is in knowing when to finger a button when the moment is perfect.
If that's the case, then you ought to cut yer ear'ole off because you got your timing wrong and it just wasn't good enough.

I offer you a challenge then... go and take a picture or two yourself, and get them published by a recognised photographic magazine or published in some form of official publication (not the local newspaper or tv news show where they publish any old snap)
When you are published, and accomplished as a photographer i and i am sure many others will accept you have the right to call photographers lucky snappers or whatever else you want to call them. You can then make a more thorough, experienced and researched opinion as to whether it is Art or not.
People may take you more seriously in your mud stirring if you actually tried to walk a mile in the shoes of the people you keep attempting to offend.

I do not attempt to offend ANYONE. If you feel offended then you should grow up and see the bigger picture. What you seem to be saying is that I have to make a living out of flogging snaps to The News Of the World just to prove my point. If I could get a piccy of the Queen picking her nose, then I'd have it made and I'd be an "artist" would I ? If I took a picture of something hauntingly beautiful or tragic and got published in "Time" magazine, then that too would make me an "artist"? I don't think so. Most of us appreciate art but it doesn't make us artists. The fact that someone has the technical skills to record a vision using the correct "F" number is far removed from the visionary who composers, paints, writes or chisels something far deeper. Do you know how this line of thinking makes me feel ? Probably not but I'll tell you anyway: It makes me feel like "artists" are so wrapped up in themselves that they put their art before the "cry in the street". It makes me feel like I should shove Shakespeare and Rembrant in the bin and concentrate on what is important in my life. People who photograph sunsets are so big-headed that they claim the sunset to be their own....a sordid boon.

What fen says. And then some. You really don't get it do you. It has nothing at all to do with knowing when to hit the button. Though it's a skill that helps. But no more or less than an "artist" knowing which brush to use or how to mix paint. > The fact that someone has the technical skills to record a vision using the correct "F" number is far removed from the visionary who composers, paints, writes or chisels something far deeper. And you don't think a photographer has the "vision" to SEE something? And then execute it. Does that make them less of an "artist"? What about all those great artists to whom you refer? You do know they used apprentices and assistants to do some of the boring bits for them? Does that make them less important because they were "so wrapped up in themselves". > If you feel offended then you should grow up and see the bigger picture. What you seem to be saying is that I have to make a living out of flogging snaps to The News Of the World just to prove my point. I don't think fen said that at all. I think you might need to see the bigger picture though. Steve

Now i understand....... that people are wasting their time when they try to reason with you on what does or does not constitute photographic art. If "photographing a sunset" is where your vision of what constitutes photographic art begins and ends, you really are talking out of your posterior, as i said in the first place/blog response. And your range of understanding of these topics is extremely limited. You fall in the category of those who say "I don't know much about art, but i know what i like...." And usually mutter under their breath "...and i don't like that". I'm not even upset with your narrow vision any more. You just cant help it. la_statuesque.
